I think, as a 'tight budget student', you potentially have a lot to learn from the people on this site - if you make the effort.
You will find this is an exciting community to be part of, but you'll also find people don't take too kindly to someone that doesn't want to contribute in some way towards that community :)

If you want to join in with us, then welcome. But I don't think you'll get much assistance if the only thing you post is a request for cheap gear ;)

No problems - as I say, you're more than welcome to make this your home ;)

This question may have been better-asked in the Canon Corral forum...

Unfortunately for you, most people with L lenses tend to hang on to them. I have a friend with a 70-200/4 that he hardly (if at all) uses and I've suggested to him he'd get more value out of converting it to cash and then to some other gear, but he's still hanging on to it.
As for flashes, even when someone upgrades from a 4xxEX flash to a 5xxEX, sometimes they keep the old unit to use as a slave (that's what I've done with my 420EX).

But the gear does come up for sale on the 2nd-hand market every now and then.
Once you're an active-enough member of these forums you'll be granted access to forums such as For Sale and you could post a Wanted item there. Actually, there's a 70-200mm/2.8 L for sale there at the moment.
Your other options would include keeping an eye on eBay, the Buy&Sell forum @ Fred Miranda's site, etc.

Unfortuately the dude wants a 70-200f2.8 for $1k which isn't going to happen. I told him he would be able to get an f4 for that price.

For 1K, I'd even buy a used Canon 70-200 f2.8

If people actually sold these types of lenses more often then a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 for a grand would probably be fair - the issue is just that people don't sell them often.

Good luck getting a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 for under 1.5K second hand though...

Why would anyone sell one of the best zoom lenses in the world for that price? Those that buy these in the first place realise what they do and what they are worth..they are a serious lens at a serious investment but the results are worth it....if you have ever been fortunate enough to use one of these you will understand..

And if you'd ever been unfortunate to understand then you'd realise some people run into financial difficulties at times which means they have to sell items which are not essential. :)

Oli, I agree that these lenses do get sold for a variety of reasons but rarely are they given away at such a low price and if they were, then sure jump on it because it would represent an excellent bargain, heck I would be first in line at that price...

OK I've gone through the thread half a dozen times now, but I don't see where 'dreams' mentioned a price. He is just asking if anyone is selling...

petal666 talked about someone offered his lens (70-200) for 1K and the story started from there.
