Lets wait for Trieu, if he's keen then yeah lets start another thread.

May I add I'll probably not be available due to Fiji, but I'd still like to see this go ahead. :)

No luck Birddog. When I left the RAAF, they wouldn't let me take a souvenier. And I let my private pilots license lapse like about 30 years ago. It was too expensive when trying to raise a family ($15/hour to hire a 172, probably $150/hour now). In hindsight it wasn't all that expensive compared to my current hobby.

Only 5 days to go!! :)

It might interest you that currently the temperature range in the mountains is reading something like 1-11'C.. So pack your winter woolies! Don't forget water, food as well.

Please PM me with your contact details so we can get hold of you if you're running late on the day etc etc. We're starting at 7am sharp (perhaps with a 15-minute leeway for a meet & greet, and for the stragglers) at the Wentworth Falls car park (a good meeting point would be next to the information board showing all the walks).

At the moment, the intention is still to tackle the Wentworth Pass, but if it's particularly cold or whatever, we might look at doing the National Pass (which I think follows the same general direction, except halfway up the cliffline as opposed to the bottom of it).

If the forecast is for "pissin' down rain", then we might postpone till the sunday, otherwise here's to a good walk! :)

Absolutely, Birdy. Even accounting for massive delays for photos, and lunch, we should still be out by 3pm at the latest. Let someone know where you are (Wentworth falls, walking the Wentworth Pass) and then don't forget to call them when you get out so we don't get caught in a Tony Bullimore-type rescue operation! :)

The BOM website currently reports Saturday's forecast for Katoomba thusly:

Chance shower, 3-11'C

We'll monitor the situation through the week and I guess make a decision on Friday night whether to go ahead or not. If it is still "chance" of a shower, I'd be inclined to go ahead with it.... except packing the waterproof gear :)

Phuck, I was looking forward to this little expedition, but unfortunately I've just been informed that I have to work this and every saturday through to July....

People - stop buying Nokia phones, they inevitably break. And when they do, I have to do the hours.

Sorry to hear that Onyx, another mate of mine was also keen to go, but he is on call for work too unfortunately.

I'm sure we'll organise more walkmeets, maybe when it's a bit warmer too!! lol

Hopefully we'll get a decent turnout anyway

Sorry guys, but looks like I won't be there either. Just too much to catch up on after spending the last week at the handball.

Hope you guys have fun and hopefully there'll be something Rooboy and I can attend eventually.

 They're dropping like flies!

Hopefully you can get a lift from somewhere Craig.. and that the weather holds off!!! Janelle and I are going to go anyway regardless (unless it is really pissin' down)

I might have to start drumming up for some more interested parties.. Come on guys, you can spend a few hours wandering around dense shrubbery and climbing stairs and ladders in the freezing cold.. What's not to like?? :) :)

Craig,
Get a train ticket and hop on a train at 4:00am. I'm sure you can make it.

Des,
It's quite harder for all Sydney members this time of the year when the outside temp. drop down too low.

Especially Saturday, people wants to sleep-ins with the cosy warm bed.

Spring or Summer could be a good chance for people to come into the party.

Me?
I'm always up at 4:00am, regardless where I'm. I'll be up my DRP by Friday with my colleagues & friends for the week-end as usual.

Yeah, I'll see if I can organise a spring one too - but wanted to do one in the meantime :) Even if it IS freezing :) :)

Actually I hope there is a bit of rain this week, and then stopping by the time Saturday rolls around.. the waterfalls would be extra-photogenic (or possibly momre dangerous, depending)

More rain, more slippery, mudddy, and danger with the walk.

Sadly Des my attendance is in jeopardy at present aswell, I am still suffering from the end of my bout of gastro and unless it's a lot better tomorrow, then I'll have to bow out, photography comes second to good health and I need to get myself all better. Will let you know tomorrow, I was really looking forward to the trip so I hope I can still go, but I can't risk making myself sicker :(

No worries Craig. I'm not the best myself either (flying back and forth to brissie every week is taking its toll!!!!). See how you feel tomorrow, you shouldn't put your health at risk.

Might it be worth putting it back till Sunday? The forecast for sunday says "mostly fine" as opposed to "chance of a shower" on Saturday. Gives you an extra day to recover, and might give Onyx a chance to join in.

If we're not up to the full walk, we can still do a "short" one, like princes rock, then weeping rock/queens cascades, then all the way to the bottom of wentworth falls, then back up. Shouldn't be more than 2-3 hours, not the full 6 hours of the Wentworth pass :)

It's raining, it's pouring
The old man is falling'
He bumped his head
And couldn't get up the stairwell.

Ok, I know how bad that was...you can all stop groaning now. I'm going either Saturday or Sunday no matter what. Coz I'm crazzy and I'm not afraid of the big bad wolf.

I think I'll go back to bed now.

You know the old story about Pandora's box? Contained the misfortunates of the world, and once opened & released could not be put back in?

Please meet Janelle.

If I can offer a suggestion. As you are travelling up the mountain you pass a petrol station on the left and then shortly after is a small street to turn off onto - I think it is called West street but I'm not sure. At the end of this is a not very popular walking trail, but it leads down into the valley of the waters or rivers and past some terrific waterfalls.

Cheers,
Owen.

Sorry Des I'm out. Can't risk getting sicker and the lack of toilets (or discrete bushes) could pose a lot of "issues". I'm still keen to go again perhaps when it's a little warmer or when I'm back to full health. (very sorry for pulling the plug).

They're all dropping like flies!!! :(

Actually they've all dropped like flies. Just me and the missus to do the walk then, will report back here with photos afterwards.. :)

Not having a lot of luck organising things at the moment, a couple of things have fallen through or been badly attended at work lately too!! Maybe I'm just not putting together an enticing enough package of activities!!! :)

We'll try again for Spring.. Sept/Oct anyone?

Nick, yeah, it's looking less and less appealing, especially if it's just going to be us :(

Are you still planning to offer that accomodation / weekend deal sometime later in the year? If we get people to book and pay, they might actually turn up!!!!

PostPosted: Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:57 pm
by pippin88
It's an idea we are still entertaining.

Would have to be later in the year (low season) if we were going to offer a decent discount.

Idea is to offer a cheap rate in return for people staying taking some photos around the cottages and land and allowing use on the website or in brouchures.

I really haven't done the place justice - indoor photography is not my area.

EDIT: Just had word that it's sleeting in Katoomba and perhaps snowing in Blackheath. Either way it is frigging cold and ugly weather. I'd suggest you give it a miss this weekend.
