Hi all , just wondering will a extreme 3 8 gig mem card be enough? Can get those for around $80?

Shooting RAW & JPEG , thanks Matt

Define "enough"? How long will you be shooting? How many shots do you want to be able to take?

It is a 21MP sensor and I would imagine the raw files could be anything up to 30MB in size (if not larger). AT 30MB, I calculate you will get around 270 shots before you fill the card. Is that "enough"? What if you want to shoot video?

My guess is you'd want multiple 8GB or even multiple 16MB cards, but no knowing what your shooting it is difficult to say.

Thanks Andrew , gives me 200 or so , the video thing I have not given thought too.

Scratch the price also , that was for extreme II , ended up getting Extreme III in the end just cost more.
I suppose photojournalist best explains.

Thanks Matt

i get between 170 and 230 shots per ex3 8gb.
the card is pretty fast, so unless you are shooting in it's (relatively slow) burst mode all the time, you won't notice much delay.

for a day at wedding, i would like to carry 4 or 5 of these cards.

I figured if it screws up less images to loose on a 8gig than a 16.

Thanks for your help, Matt

I was shooting the 5D mark I with 8GB 300x cards - got around 470 photos. The same card in the 5D Mark II = around 270 photos! Im slowly adding 16GB cards for my wedding shoots. I dont feel 16GB is too-many-eggs in one basket.
