Just looking up some info on the area and found this:

https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iapark ... parkId=131

some roads and walkways closed until further notice.

Might affect us?

We'll have to keep an eye on the Qld Parks website..
If the situation doesn't change we'll just have to use the black stuff to get up to Rainbow. Not as picturesque but a means to an end. At least Freshwater and the beach are okay ... until some other idiot lights a fire, that is.

Hi Oneputt.

All going well with the baby situation I'll definitely be there. Looking forward to it, sounds like a fantastic day. BTW, the baby was early... arrived tonight about 5pm. Mum and bub doing really well. Mum isn't going to have chemo now, but another type of treatment. I'm still 'on call' but hopefully they won't need me next weekend.

Do we need to bring anything special (other than cameras :o), food and drink etc)?

It's not looking good for the re-opening of the Cooloola Way. There has been no update since Dec 19 and neither of the regional QPWS offices (Tewantin and Rainbow Beach) seem to want to answer their phones.

Not being able to access Cooloola Way will add 40km to the trip and eliminate some nice scenic areas.

Simon my information is that the road to Harry Springs Hut (one of our intended stops) is certainly open, and I will check tommorow to see if the northern half of the track is open. I believe that the fire did not reach the Cooloola Way but as usual getting hold of the NPWS is going to be a problem.

Have found out that they are closed until next week :? So we will have to chance our arm and my personal feeling would be that there will not be a problem.

Hi all.

Have just got home from holidays to the bad news that a good family friend has passed away over Xmas. As such, with all the goings-on that happen with these things, it looks doubtful that I will be able to attend.

Sorry for stuffing people around, but these kinds of things are totally impossibel to predict, of course.

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Oneputt - remember I said we wouldn't be silly enough to work on New Years Eve???? I was wrong !!! But, we will be able to come along for most of the day - we'll have to head off after we get back to Rainbow Beach from Inskip point . (we have to count birds down at Coombabah tomorrow afternoon.)

Hope this doesn't stuff anyone up... shouldn't do. I'll check back on forum later this evening and check up.

Looking forward to tomorrow , will be FANTASTIC !!

Just a thank you to all who went on the trip. What a way to end 2005! A great day, wonderful country and a scenic route through Cooloola and along the North of Noosa past Rainbow Beach. I can definitely see the sense in 4WD's after negotiating sand for most of the day. Looking forward to the images from other members on the trip. All the best for 2006 to SEQ members.

Utterly brilliant - thank you all so much for such a fantastic day!!! It was an absolute pleasure to meet all of you - what a great group of people !!!!!

Bugger that we didn't make it to the end, but we did make it to Coombabah with about 10minutes to spare to count ibis :)

Thanks again

SEQ day out

Postby neroli on Mon Jan 02, 2006 11:24 pm

Well - what a fantastic day we had, an amazing experience. A huge thanks to John and Kevin (and whoever else helped with the organising). A big thanks also to Kevin for being our chaffeur!

What a neat bunch of people we met up with. I was especially lucky to be able to bring along my brother in law who is over from NZ for a short visit - (thanks to John for doing some last minute reshuffling). He can't get over his luck in having this amazing opportunity and passes on a big thankyou also.

I didn't take many pics, was mostly too busy talking :). Fantastic to share this great hobby with likeminded cameraholics, and not have to bore the family to death for a change.

Many, many thanks folks. I look forward to meeting up again soon.
