On that note, could all attendees please PM me with your email addresses, so that I can give you details etc. This will be a PRE PAY event only - if u haven't PRE-PAID you don't get let in, and I have a ferocious bouncer Geoff

Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08I'm sure i'll enjoy it. I love this stuff and there hasn't been much i haven't liked since i started learning. I just didn't want to get in the way if it was more of a pro day or something.
Does anyone know a cheapish place to stay that is near the studio? I really don't know sydney at all, so the closer the better really. Thanks!

Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08 or 06.04.08 TBC
Well after a bit of experimenting I have sorted turning on the commander mode and either adjusting or turning off the on camera flash. So looks like we are good to go. D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08Just a quick note on Saturday evening - this was great; thanks very much to Geoff for all your work in organising this - it really was worth it!
F PS downside is that i'm clearly going to have to buy that 85mm 1.4!!
Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08Yeah i'll throw in my thanks too! It was a very fun day. Well worth the drive there and back from Canberra. It was one of the most fun days I've had in a long time. The whole thing was excellent. I learnt a hell of a lot today. Thank god i bought a light kit last week I'll be putting my name down for the next one!
Thanks to geoff and gary and anyone else that put it together. It was fantastic. Candy was terrific too. Very professional.
Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08Just a quick note of thanx to Geoff for organising this, Candice for her patience, Micahel for the use of the studio, and everyone else for attending. It was a great day, and a long one for Geoff, Bel, Candice, Michael, and me.
Looking over the shoulders of everyone, it was evident that a lot of good lessons were being learned, and that a lot of fun was being had. That was great, and it absolutely was the goal for the day. It was also great to catch with some older friends, as well as meet with some of our newer members. A bit of a word about the room: great. A giant light tent! Seriously. The studio is a unit in a typical factory/warehouse unit complex, but basically empty. Walls and floor painted white, with seamless curves added into the corners where the floor meets the walls, or where the walls' corners converge. Standing near the corner, and looking into the corner, can be quite disconcerting. Hanging from the ceiling there's a large reflector too. This studio is frequently used for car shoots, and I can well understand why. As I said, it's a giant light tent. Lighting this time consisted of some Elinchrom 1100ws heads, driven off battery packs into a couple of soft boxes. We also had another head into a snoot for some hairlighting, and later in the day we also used a beauty dish. Those who have attended one of our portraiture workshops may recall that we've used, for instance, the lighting kits from Poon running at about a quarter to half power. By way of comparison, the Elinchroms were running at less than 10% power, which acts, for me, as a confirmation that the Poon kits are ideal for the small portrait sessions that we target them for. The Elinchroms go for upwards of Au$2500 each. Worth it if you're doing this sort of thing every day, and especially if you have much bigger fish to fry, so to speak. Stands are extra, so too are any shapers that you need. The battery packs made these units portable: if you're doing a location shoot, you just drag them along and use them. It's that simple. I'll post a few of my images later this morning. g.

Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08
So its not just me then. Thanks to Geoff for organising such a great day, Gary for letting me test out the 85mm 1.4 and everyone else for their advice. Mark me down for the next one. D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08Sounds like a great day was had, pity I couldn't go! In the end, I would have time to go to the morning session but didn't find out about the time for the other function until Friday or so!!! Can't wait to see the images.

Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08Guys,
I can only reiterate what has already been said. This was a fantastic day! The use of the studio, and it's size made it ideal for the enthusiasm for those who came along. David - some of our shots from the day will DEFINATELY make Candice's portfolio, that I have absolutely no doubt about. Everyone that came had a willingness to learn, share and have fun. The good news is, that if we book the studio twice a month (this may be a bit difficult) for a whole day, the cost per member will be significantly reduced. For those that weren't aware, it cost each member $50. The cost would drop to around $30 per member if it was a regular thing. I have a copy of most of everyone's images, but please feel free to post some of your best stuff from the day. I was certainly knackered at the end of the day, but boy...it was worth it! Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm, and Gary for your ideas and teaching. Candice was really patient too. One last thanks to Michael (the studio owner). If anyone has a need to hire the studio, for a few hours, a half day or full day I can highly recommend Michael's services. He hung around for most of the day, and also shared his ideas etc. He implemented quite a few of the artistic ideas behind some of the various backdrops/scenarios we put Candice in front of. Thanks all!! I too will post some shots some time today. Great wide shot of the studio David, nice new toy!! Geoff

Re: EOI Portraiture Shoot + Workshop 05.04.08Geoff, thank you very much for putting this all together, I had a great time as I would imagine most would. Candice was an absolute pleasure, taking direction from five photographers simultaneously and smiling all the while. One couldn't hope for a more pleasant person to work with. Teresa the make up artist did a great job, tirelessly working throughout the day. Gary fixed my white balance so many times it looked like his full time job.
