Xerebus Oneputt Boxerboy SteveB JordanP and, of course, Me. Haven't heard yet from Leigh999 or Grev. I've booked a table in the Breakfast Creek Hotel's Spanish Garden restaurant for 10 people at 12 noon, on the 27th. The booking is under the name of 'D70 Group'. I can hear the steak sizzling even now.... Could those that would like to come but haven't confirmed yet please let me know as soon as you can in case I have to alter the booking if we get more than 10. Come on, don't be shy. See you there! It's building into a nice size first up 'Meet'. Hope the food is good. I am sure the company will be excellent, and look forward to your report and shots of the group.
ta ta for now, fozzie
When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
Grev I haven't eaten there for years, but it is a people place so I do not imagine that it is expensive. You can always just have a beer..........or two. Oh and believe you me, this fella is no pro, so that will make two of us.
Don't worry Grev, we are a friendly bunch and as yet I've not known a VR lens to bit ( except your wallet ) Look forward to meeting you and all the rest of the crew. Craig
Make that 3 Just me, my D70, kit lens + Nikkor 70-300G. And a big thirst for knowledge. Simon

Haha, I have the kit lens & the Tamron 70-300 Macro. Although because I'm going to the Joe Satriani concert, I'm going to buy a 50mm f1.8 sometime soon, so I can do some photojournalism.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm the least experienced photographer here, so yeah...
for photojournalism you can't go past the nikon 28-70 f2.8D.... very very nice and highly regarded as 'the' photojournalist lens... http://www.maxwell.com.au/products/niko ... 8_afs.html cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
okay.... what about the 85 f1.8D... it's only around $400 and a great length for concerts... you may struggle with the 50mm depending on how close you can get?
http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
That's exactly what I was thinking of, because it's at The Arena (in the Valley), and it's a small venue compared to like the Exhibition centre, I was thinking of going there a lot earlier and get in the front row and get some good shots in.
Also I heard that the 85mm 1.4 is one of the best primes ever made, I so want that but haven't got the money of course, I can get the 85mm 1.8 though, although for the same money, is the 50mm 1.4 better?
that really depends on what you're shooting.... personally i don't think the 85 f1.4 is worth the extra $$$$$$ for one stop... might want to start a new thread if you want discussing this... there are plenty of other photographers out there with a view, and we're chatting about this in the wrong area... http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Hey all - I am keen to catch up with the D70 Brisbanites but unfortunately I will be visiting my dad at the sunshine coast for his birthday on Sun 27 Feb. I will keep an eye out for the next event and hope to see you there.
Regards Rebecca
that's a shame Rebecca.. was looking forward to discussing some of your shots.. you have a great eye for 'art'....
cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Thanks for letting us know Rebecca - we'll catch you at the next one. Have some birthday cake for us

So sorry guys this weekend (as much as I would love to come) has to be out for me - almost the end of the Salary Packaged year and the car has 3000km to acquire in the next month - gosh I love sydney in Autumn.......I am heading to Birddog country, hmmmm I should see if I can pick up a shirt (or a nice new lens - I wish I am feeling poor).
Have a great one and please do put in some feedback as to how things go... Ta Gerard
Hi fellow Queenslanders and Northern New South Welshpeople
I am unable to commit to any advance arrangements at the moment due to the recent onset of a severe illness and very poor prognosis of my wife's elderly father. Relatives are flying in from Sydney for the weekend and I am the family taxi driver. I see Xerubus will be there with a nice Guinness for everyone but I'm sure you will all have a great time. Cheers Graham
Gerard, Graham and Allan - sorry you can't make it. Next time maybe.

Thanks for your kind thoughts Xerubus. Not looking good though unfortunately. Anyway, you did say a Guinness for everyone hehe - read your earlier post, but I know you didn't mean everyone but your post just read that way Anyway, I passed the Brekky Creek twice today on the way to the airport run and on each occasion I had a wistful 'hope everyone is having a terrific time" thought.
