Afternoon clouds - bye bye sunsetsNot sure if this should go in the rant section, but is anyone else in Queensland and Northern NSW completely frustrated by the afternoon clouds that spoil any chance of a decent evening photo shoot?
For the past fortnight or so I've been trying to nail a series of long exposure, twilight photos around the Gold Coast. And every afternoon the clouds come over the mountain range and turn the glorious late arvo sunshine into a muddy, diffused gloom. It wouldn't be so bad if these clouds were proper storm clouds - at least then we'd get some badly needed rain and I could even shoot some lightning strikes. But they don't even have the decency to do that. They're mostly high altitude clouds and they disappear a couple hours after sunset. Oh well, its one of the perils of living in the sub-tropics I suppose. I can't wait for winter and dry, fine days and cool nights. Jonas Nikon D70s, Nikkor 18-70, Sigma 70-300DG APO

I agree - roll on winter. Last winter I started a series of shots with the sun in the same place each day. The idea was for a shot for each day of the week, however after getting six shots the sun will not be back in the right place until next winter. It's a bugger

Hey Jonas,
Funny I had noticed the exact same thing!!!! I live at Palmy and the other afternoon I went down to the beach to shoot some winblown sand. When the low angle sun shines on it it really enhances the contrast of the ridges and troughs. But alas it seems every arvo there is a bank of clouds in the west that hinder the shots I want. Oh well I feel the pain Jonas. Joel
you look out to the east to see a few scattered clouds which could mean some nice sunset shots then look back to the west and its just a gloomy cloud mass
