Hi all,
Just wanted to make an appearance and say that this forum has been most helpful.
I've moved to Brisbane in the last year and a half, and have been snapping away by myself with my trusty CP5700.
I've only recently decided to lump it in for a DSLR and joined your ever growing ranks.
Are there any recent meets coming up? I'd like to meet some like minded people and get some tips and tricks, as well as push my abilities further.
I have a couple of places that I am posting some of my photos if you had the time and inclination, I'd love some feed back

Hope to meet some of you in the near future
Cheers

Welcome Hash. Your in good company, there are about one million SE QLD members (give or take....)
Look forward to seeing some of your images. Are you using a D200?
D200!

Yep, using a D200. I've been eyeing off my Dad's D70 ever since it got released and been using my housemate's D70 (Thanks Claire!). However I wanted more, something that was above and beyond an upgrade from my cherished CP5700 (lets face it, the CP5700 did most of the things that I needed, just frustratingly slowly and painfully, albeit in a small tidy package).
I had a kit ordered via photocontinental for about 3 months when I came upon a body at Bentley's Camerahouse, Indooroopilly in the last few of weeks. So I jumped and paid about $90 more than I would have for a body at photocontinental (if they had one).
Hoping to complete my acquistion with the 18-200mm VR when they start coming into supply. Will have to make do with my 90mm Tamron for now and my house mate's lenses.
What's the go with DSLRUser's merchandise? It seems like a while since any thing was posted about it? Would love to get an Optech pro strap with the logo

Might get some interesting photos or some very broken cameras.
My friends always wanted to travel with me so that they could ask airport security "Have you seen my 6' stack of Hash anywhere?"

I probably saw you at KFC Indooroopilly last week - you were with two women, you toted the D200 and one of the ladies had a D70. And you guys got off from what I recall was an AE82-series Corolla hatch.

What do you shoot? Are you around the Indooroopilly area?

I live in St Lucia, attend uni at UQ. I don't shoot much specific genres but prefer action stuff like bicycle races and racetrack stuff. I do a bit of everything though.

You guys undergrad, postgrad, or staff? I'm doing environmental engineering Ph.D.
I was hoping to get some night shots around and about campus one day, but feel nervous about doing it after dark. Would you guys be keen to get some photos? Safer in numbers!
Cheers

I'm in applied science but I think I want to be a photographer.
The campus isn't that bad at night and I don't know where you'd take photos at night though...
I have yet to see a good spot but you might know more.
Nothing along the river, eh?

I was thinking the great court and the entrance from the bus stops. I just think the campus looks great under lights. No nothing along the river. Or some of the water features, even though they are turned off, maybe the toxic lakes out near engineering.
Even the Hawken Building is quite impressive underlights, I'm sure many of the others are as well but I didn't do my undergrad here so I wouldn't know.
I was hoping to do it from sunset and an hour or so after so nothing late.

Hmmm... I guess there would just be opinion clashes as I don't find the great court or the hawken building to be that great...
I've also tried the entrance from the bus stops, nothing really excited me.
I just don't really think UQ has got good photo opportunities...

You'll find lots of great info and tips are shared here.
My search button is almost worn out!
Maybe I'm not paying attention enough, but in the 12 months I have been here, I have only seen one SEQ minimeet organised, and that was over New Years (a crazy time, but tied in with somebody's hols, I think).
Maybe the most central spot for all SEQ members (Sunny Coast, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast), is somewhere in Brisbane itself?
Cheers,
Adam
gee....... I have been to 4 mini meets and could not make one other.......since Xmas....... I think that is 5 ........

More opportunities than you might think - come springtime, there's lots of avian families leading their broods around the ponds behind the Hawken engineering blocks. Around November the jacaranda trees around the campus will be flowering in unison and is an impressive sight.

Yeah, there have been quite a few mini meets, you just need to watch out on when they are.
Photo opportunity wise, there are more around the city or inner city.
