It is a bit overdue folks - any suggestions for dates / location.

Maybe we should try and get something going for the AW!

Ummmm... dare I say "I'm in".

Steve - you and I were discussing recently the Roma Street Parklands. This could be a good central option for Brisbanites and any interstate visitors. As you know it lends itself to all kinds of photographic pursuits - macro, floral, candid people/street shots, landscapes, etc.

Another idea that I was mulling over with Blacknstormy and Bindii was the Southport Spit. Some great beach/dune/bird/surfer shots coupled with beautiful sunsets, great night exposures using Broadwater reflections and yummy eateries nearby.

Looks like 2 locations are on the short list

Roma Street Parklands always has plenty on offer but I kindof like the idea of an afternoon / evening at the beach. maybe we could run it on the AW so it isn't just the Sydneysiders having a party.

Sorry Rel - didn't have a roster with me. Even if you couldn't make that one, we'll do something else anyway. Ladybird may well be working too so we'll see how things pan out.

I'll join in if possible, but I would be a better chance of making it if the venue were to be Roma St Parklands rather than the Gold Coast.

Any chance of a few sensor cleans by someone experienced at the meet.

If you tell me what materials to buy I can bring them along....... :D

You really want to do that near the beach Tony ? :D

I'll check the Calendar and see what is scheduled for that weekend...

EDIT: Calendar is looking fairly free thus far... If it is the beach I think the boy and Vicki may come along :)

This sounds good. I need an excuse to make some time for myself. However, depending on the date and time, I may or may not be able to make it. Will let you know if I'm a definite contender when the details are more set.

Ummmm...what date is it going to be on...??

and either place is good for me....although from experience I reckon that the Beach is good for togging...but soooo bad for my waistline...thanks to Rel and her Chips with vinegar.....*drools*

LB and Bindii - currently the plan is to try to coordinate it with the Sydney Anniversary Weekend celebrations, making it Saturday August 4. However, if that proves to be problematic for many folk who'd like to come then we can move it to another day. The coast trip really needs to be a Saturday afternoon/evening to make the best of lighting and activities around the area and still be kind to people with families and 9-5 jobs - those that want to hang around and make it a dinner engagement as well will appreciate being able to hold off their return travel 'til later on, then sleep in on Sunday morning.

I have my old faithful Sony F707 that I've had for over 5 years now, and a Canon 400D. I've gone from knowing my camera inside out to being a brand newbie again 'ugh'. It is fun though.

Still August 4 (to coincide with the AW) but are we still doing the Southport Spit thing? I'm cool whatever works out.

Steve?

I'm still keen if it is during the day to early evening. I'm going to a music gig in the valley at 8.30 so if you decide the coast option, I'll just be heading off a bit earlier than the rest.

Would love an excuse to catch up with ppl and get the camera out without feeling guilty.

I think the two options on the table are Roma Street Parklands and Southport Spit. Each has its own unique photographic character and a signicant variety of subjects and techniques that can be employed.

I don't want to get into a drawn-out tug of war over where we're going but maybe the Parklands might be the better option taking travel and proximity into account? We can do Southport another time perhaps?

Please voice your opinions folks!!

Either/or for me. I can drive to the Spit or catch the train in for the parklands.

Okay - Steve and I had a chat yesterday and we reckon we'll make this minimeet at Roma Street Parklands. Proximity, parking, eateries nearby and more photographic subjects than you can poke a stick, or lens, at. Something for the landscape folks, the urban grunge and candid gurus, the floral artists and the macro geeks, me included!

We discussed the fact that one of the main attractions of the Southport Spit is taking shots of the surfers from almost directly above them on the sand-pumping jetty and, at the moment, there's only a few brave, or insane, souls who are out dicing up the waves. Also, many of the bird life has gone to warmer climes and the sunsets across the Broadwater aren't as speccy as they are in Summer. The Spit will definitely be waiting for us later in the year. :)

I'm going out on a limb and say we look at 12.30pm start and we can hang around into the evening for sunset and night shots. If anyone wants to get there earlier they can utilised the bbqs and picnic areas for lunch (you'd have to get their pretty early though to secure one). I vote for meeting at the roadside entrance to the main walkway (the one that has the fountain flowing down the side of it. The entry is directly across the road from the residential developments. However, if someone has a better idea for a meeting point then please let us know.

Should be a lot of fun.

Gee you girls get side-tracked easily....this isn't a thread on your eating habits!!!! :P

Well at least I know to bring a block of chocolate next Sat in case we both see a good photo opp at the same time - I'll throw a bit of choccy to the side, distract you and get the shot first. (insert evil laugh here)

I'll be at the meet but can someone give some more detailed directions on the meeting place? I haven't been to the parklands before.

Ladybird:

From your neck of the woods, come up Gregory Terrace and go straight across at the lights beside Brisbane Boys Grammar (Wickham Tce). This road feeds you straight into the Parklands. Find a parking spot in one of the carparks or continue along the road until you're crossing in front of the buildings (they're on your right, grass on your left) Here you'll see the long walkway/boardwalk/bridge structure that goes in towards the lake. We'll meet at the road end of this walkway. Just give a ring when you're in the area.

I'm bringing chocolate, but not a hot guy in a sequined g string, it would just distract me too much.

I just hope I dont get lost.
