BNE stores

Just a shoutout to see if we can gather a list of (quality) stores in the Brisbane area.
Only just starting out, but would prefer to source stuff locally rather than online
(primarily for the face to face avenue). Also be a bonus if peeps know whether or not
they match Aussie online prices

The only ones I really have had anything to do with are
PhotoContinental (Mt Gravatt)
Kyo(something-or-other) South Brisbane --actually was--> Kayell (Thanks Linda) Woolloongabba (http://www.kayellqld.com.au/)

Cheers!

Regards to matching online stores, you'll find (from my experience) they try just not to laugh at you.....

Which has always made me more determined to buy O/S :D

If you want to get the best value and possibly more equipment from the money saved, seriously consider the
grey imports....

Teds Cameras is good in Adelaide St

Re Grey imports - stores can price match with Sigma lenses (Sigma Australia will do this)

Try these people, http://www.camerasdirect.com.au/ I have bought both a 18-200VR and SB800 from them, good prices and great service. You can collect from their warehouse on the Gold Coast.

I've found Rainers Camera House in Adelaide Street to be quite good when I purchased my 400D a few months ago.

Also their prices were the cheapest I could find in the Brisbane area without trying to price match :D

HI Guys.

I'm a new DSLR owner and I only just went through the maze of price shopping myself a couple of weeks ago.

I found the following places local (Brisbane / Ipswich area).

- JB HiFi
- Photo Continental
- Camerahouse
- Ted's Camera Store.

I also found much better prices via online shopping.

- B&H USA
- Vistek Canada
- http://www.thecamerastore.com Canada

My experience was that PC were expensive but polite, Ted's had very bad PR and were in fact often rude at times, Camera house were OK but not the best on prices.

JB however were very good to deal with and went out of their way to match prices even internet prices. They even rang the distributor to check and match prices for me.

In the end JB were about $80 under the others for my purchase of a DSLR kit with lens. And $60 under anyone else on my second purchase of a telephoto lens.

While I myself prefer to shop locally and support local business the savings that can be had by buying abroad just can not be ignored. If JB had not of been so helpful I would have most likely bought from a Canadian store. The exchange rate between Australia and Canada is still pretty good. (80 cents in the dollar).
The lens I purchased separately for example could have been easily another AUD$50 cheaper!

In the end all I can say is that I was quiet disappointed by many of the so called specialty stores.
As much as I hate to say it, my advice to anyone wanting to purchase DSLR equipment would be to shop for best price from a known trusted suppler and don't be afraid to buy online with the proper precautions like insured postage etc.

In the end your best support and advice is also going to come from online sources such as dslrusers.com etc.

.-.-.

I have to disagree there from personal experiences.

Handy thread - I'm off to Brisbane for a race this weekend and am snuffling out some good shops to visit in the cbd.

Here's another I found on Yellow Pages, Rainer's Camera House, 166 Adelaide St, Brisbane. Haven't visited though.

I've found the service at Ted's on Adelaide st and also at PhotoContinental to be quite poor, to be fair to PC I've only ever been in there on weekends when its busy.
However I've only had good experiences at DD Photographics normally good prices and good service.

I go to PC a lot , they, when pushed a little will examine their prices, maybe I'm a little more persistent :-)

Staff are excellent , everyone I have spoken with take photos or use the equipment.

I must say that the only decent camera store that I have found in Brisbane is Bentleys an Indooroopilly shopping centre. I found that the two in Adelaide Street in the city weren’t very helpful and PC laughed when I asked for a price match.

I have checked Aussie stores for the best price then rang PC's and they have matched it each time
