Righto - who would be interested in having a seance? By this I mean we select a dark, gloomy night, a suitably dank location and attempt to exorcise the demons from the SB-800 Users Manual through a self-teach mini-meet workshop?

I've had my light sabre for less than 2 weeks, have been doing lots of experimenting but really don't know what I'm doing. I'd love to get together with some people who know their way around this little beastie or at least know more about it than I do. I haven't found the manual too taxing but that's probably because I don't know what it SHOULD be telling me.

Oneputt and Xerebus responded positively on another thread about this idea. Perhaps it's time we did something proactive about it.

If we get enough interest, I'll put up a poll for dates and canvass ideas for locations. Look forward to hearing from you.

The rest of this month is out for me, as I am off to the Kimberley, but after that I am in.

I can't see the SB-800 workshop getting off the ground this month; it's half gone and Easter puts big whole in the end of it; so I don't think you're going to miss out. We would have held it over for you anyway! (Gotta get that Moet, right!!)

I'm wondering whether, as suggested on the previous thread, we should have a "self-help" gathering to discuss the SB800 and its features.
If we pool our knowledge (I've had mine for a while now, and have some inkling) we might make some progress.
I can also draw on Thom Hogan's eBook and some other resources.

I think you've just earned the "Instructor" moniker for our session Trevor.

I am sure that the pooloing of knowledge is the way to go, and seeing as the session could be a way off could we perhaps spread allocate specific functions to a specific member? Learn up on it and impart the knowledge at a meet.

Depending upon the day - Count me in, gotta be an easier way than reading that crappy manual....

I'm definitely interested, although I've only got my old SB-24. The SB-800 is still on the wish list.

I am looking at buying a flash soonish and would appreciate a look at what they are capable of.

Spooky (Mulder? ) - you will be amazed at what the latest iTTL flash systems pack. Not only is it simply a source of light. These days, the modern flash units communicate info like lens focal lengths through the body and adjusts their reflectors to optimally illuminate only the areas visible to the sensor. It's a marvel of technology!

I would love to join in but need to get my SB800 first.

I haven't got it yet and I am already initimidated.

I would also be interested, do not have an sb800 as yet, but a good chance to meet some other members and learn. I have a lot of studio flash experience but have never used a flash on camera, except for happy snaps, and let the camera and flash do all the work, maybe we all could learn something.

I would like to know how to get the best out of it.

I am still interested..........the best way to learn about your flash is use it in all different areas and use different settings in these areas to see what the light is doing. ie:flash fill with the sun behind your subject, use different shutter speeds same F stop. try many different things. one of the best things about digital it is instant.

I read somewhere that the manual was written by a psychopath. I totally agree Wish Thom Hogan would hurry up with a book on the SB-800.

I recently got my SB-800 from Birddgo as well. Am definitely keen for a session.

On my count that would be 3 and any one else who would like to come so lets pick a place and date. I am not available from 6 april to 9 april so any other time would be good. Let get positive and do it.

try out the remote function(s) of the SB800.
We had a ball (I think) when using 2 or 3 remote flashes on portraits in Canberra.
We also didn't compensate the flash settings for any eventualiies, we just set and fired.
The results were amazing (I belive)

I only have a SB600 but can I still come and play?

agreed... i use the sb800 wirelessly for lighting my background in the studio... works a treat.

do I count 5 now ........ would this be called a mini meet....... so lets put some dates up say between the 20th and 30th of April, now all we need is a meeting place. I am happy to have it at my place on the coast......

I certainly haven't lost interest.

Gold Coast may be a little far for some though.

(PS Using it wirelessly is a hoot - must find out some day how far you can place it before it stops talking to the camera...)

Add a radio slave and then a long wayyyyyy............. I am quite happy to come to Brissie
