Is anyone from Qld and members from Northern NSW interested in having a mini meet at Australia Zoo sometime in June ........... If we can get a few people I will contact the Zoo and see if we can get to areas that are better for photography, or if any members have tried this before with the Zoo.......If not the Zoo some where else.....Lets give the D70 Sign a workout.........
Cheers

Hi Big Pix,
I believe that the Brisbane Camera Group organised an outing to the zoo some time ago and arranged a 'group' price with the zoo (I think they needed ten or more to do it). I didn't go so I'm not sure about if they got special access but I think everyone who went was pretty happy about it.
I could ask the person who organised it for more info if you like.

Rebecca ......... that would be good........ and maybe some more ideas on somewhere else we could all go other that a long hike, with all due respect to the hikers in the group. Also what does the group think about some sort of mini meet every 6 to 8 weeks just to keep in touch, or it could also be social meet..........LETS ALL GET TOGETHER........and give the sign a workout......
cheers

Aside from the disappointment of not having my colleague along for her first d70users meet, I'm right to lock in the 19th. Looking forward to it!

If it is OK with everyone lets do it on the 19th, I will get some information from the zoo re opening time. There is a large petrol station come eatery come coffee shop on the main highway, would this be a good meeting point, or at the zoo at a time yet to be set,

OK the Zoo will give us a ten percent discount for a group of ten or more, which will reduce the entrance fee to $30.60 per person.
I am not sure about when school holidays are, but she said that if we wanted to be able to move around freely we should avoid school holidays.

is there any reason why we couldn't make it this month?

If school holidays start the 20th then the 19th would be crowded. I ca't make it this month, but would it hurt if we maded it the weekend before? The 12th June?

Yes it is. However, ANY weekend is going to be busy there, school holidays, Queen's Birthday or otherwise.
xerubus wrote:is there any reason why we couldn't make it this month?
For me, and I suspect a few others, it's too short notice to make it this month.
I'm not concerned about the holiday aspects, so I'm quite happy to keep the 19th. One thing to consider is that many families do this sort of thing during the week while on holidays as, for once, they can escape the weekend crush. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's not much busier than a normal weekend.

I reckon we should stick with the 19th and take our chances with the school holiday influx. May get a 'decisive moment' shot of some little brat playing with a reticulated python...

For those who do not have large CF cards or get a bit trigger happy, I will have my laptop with me so you will be able to download, so bring some BLANK DISKS, if you think you will need them. It will be firewire download, those with MAC's just bring a DVD.
Cheers
