Well, we have had 2 months to go! and decisive moments are everywhere, anytime.

We should achieve our goals as we achieved the great results in our first year of this forum, over thousand members and less than 60 pics, so what's the ratio?

Little bit sad if it's the case. :wink:

Once the competition closes tonight at midnight, is it up to the entrants to unhide the images, or is that done by MHD?

I've never entered a comp so I thought i'd ask.

54 images in total ?

We were hoping for around 60, so I guess that's not too bad at all. Well done all, let's see how the voting pans out, and we can all look forward to the big announcement at the Saturday night dinner at the AW.

And Scott, a special thanx to you for making it all happen.

I certainly hope people vote with the theme in mind. That's the whole reason for having a theme at all and whilst there will no doubt be some stunning shots, it's unfair to vote up an image based just on that criteria if it isn't apparent how it addresses the theme. My votes will be theme-based first, technical quality second.

Just my opinion.

Yep! vote for or with the theme first as we had the decision when we started this challenge.

Any photo is not in the theme then will be last. Quality, technical or other involments are not counted in as first priority.

Of course.. the problem is that we all may have a different idea of what the theme means..

See I think of the decisive moment as being a moment that is important for either the subject or the viewer... others I think focussed more on the fact that the phrase 'snapshot' was used in the article.. and while their shots might be technically brilliant, if there's no easily apparent meaning or message in the image....

... I don't know

Are we talking too specifically? Should we wait till after the voting?

{Edit @ 10:00am} Okay - that came out really arrogant. I'm the last person to say ( or believe ) 'My photo is better than yours' so I hope people don't get offended.. {/edit}

Hi,

I found that going to have a read again of that original article that was posted in regards to "The Decisive Moment" very useful to put the photos back in context of the theme.

Just a suggestion, but could be worthwhile to put that link on either/both of the challenge page and voting page.

Theme is set by Flyer in the original opening post... Whatever entrants make from there is up to them...
IMHO there is no such thing as objective critiquing.. you like what you like

**NOTE***
I did miss copying one across... if you have voted please not that there is now one more entry in the voting gallery

I'm a little confused.. Having never done this before..

But.. if voting is only open to registered entrants, and registered entrants submitted a photo, wouldn't they only vote for themselves?

Can other forum members vote, that aren't registered?

Just a bit of my confusion to start a Monday :)

Thanks

Quote from the article that I feel is important, given this discussion on what is a decisive moment...
Capturing the Decisive Moment can be calculated, as well as spontaneous – and each is legitimate.

Almost Gary...
My comment meant that some are not only better than other but are amazing images that made my head turn

So not only are they good in the company of the other images (which are of a very high standard) they are good on thier own or with any other images period...

Everyone should vote for every photo - it is a grading system. It is also generally accepted that you will give your own photo the highest grading (although not compulsory!). If everyone does this, then it seems to work out about right :)

Sheepie;

Heartily agree with you. I don't think that anyone would look at the bloodiest of the shots and think that the photographer was actually doing that. If nothing else it would make it damn hard to pick up the prize if they/he/she/it/me/you/my mum/your mum ( protecting anonymity ;) ) won..
