Well I managed to guess at least 1 photo's owner. It was neat and in the middle. Nice shot Matt.

Thank you MHD for all your hours of work in maintaining the site.

Thank you Birdy for your generous donation of some magnificent prizes.

The competition is truely awesome. If I can be half as good as some of the contributors, I'll be well and truely content with that.

Thanks everyone

Graham

Mudder, where was the Shamrock Inn photographed? I swear I remember seeing something about a Shamrock Inn near Koroit / Tower Hill.

Then again there are probably a dozen of them :)

I'd just like to comment on how I voted - in case ppl find out who voted for whom, how much and why... and get aggro at me for voting them down. ;)

I voted firstly based on the image's interpretation of the theme as how I perceived it - B&W in Nature. Sometimes what I thought was a wonderful black and white picture did not get high votes simply because it was not as well matched to the theme as others.

Secondly, I lack creativity (this is confirmed numerous times for me when looking at other people's images of the same or similar subjects as I have taken and being surprised and envious that they saw it from a perspective I didn't even think of shooting). I'm a technical photographer. I tend to rate perfect image technique of a boring picture higher than an emotional image with a technical mistake. Exposure, composition (I hate the thirds), etc.

Very high up on the list for me in this challenge was maximising contrast. I know I didn't do this very well myself, I blame my dislike for B&W, you may blame me for whatever... Black and white images are all about contrast, since colour is lacking to convey detail. For a B&W image to be optimised for contrast, a section of the picture should be solid white, one section solid black, and then all the shades of grey inbetween. Those that didn't have a noticeable area or segment of solid whites or blacks got marked down by me - it didn't matter at this stage what the image was depicting. I know, I'm unfair... feel free to hate me.

Craig, our winner - you now have the honour of choosing our next challenge. I look forward to your choice of topic! :)
