Brisbanites?

Postby wendellt on Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:18 pm

Hellow brisbane people

i'll be up there from august 28 to sunday 3rd sept

on the 28th i'll have a whole day to explore the place, anyone got ideas
on mus things to shoot, i like landscapes, the rest of the time i'll have ample afternoon time to capture some sunsets

last time i was there i was 10 and i only saw world expo 88, so my memories of brisbane is an amalgamation of countries contained in weird buildings

thanks in advance

Wendell - though most would have you believe nothing's changed since 1888 up here, let alone 1988, it couldn't be further from the truth. I'm working all that week but will probably be in the city on the Friday night (a few drinkies). Busy on the weekend as well...

Whereabouts are you going to be based??

Saturday night, Sep2, is our 'River Fire' fireworks show and F-111 dump-and-burn so if you were in the city, there'll be some fantastic opportunities if you can drag yourself away from catwalks.

mate a catchup would be great, I've been wanting to have a chat to you regarding some ideas off forum so it'd be an ideal opportunity to do so.

The Hilton's smack bang in the middle of town, it's a fair walk to Southbank's fake beach. For a real beach you'd need to head to the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast, otherwise the options are Moreton Bay mangroves with a lot of sand dumped on top, and flat often questionable looking water (not even going to mention how it smells) in the background.

Which job are you up here for?

Hilton is in the CBD. (I think we recently discussed this in relation to Narelle's shot of Graham the blind saxophone player).

Fireworks are on the Saturday night so you'll still be here. I'd offer to meet you somewhere for it but I'm helping run a fireworks-related fund raising event at my kids' school downriver a tad.

Monday early afternoon I'd be free to get you a lift up Mt Coot-Tha or one of the nearer hills to town for skyline shots. Then I'd be free from 8-30pmish till about 1030pm. The city looks best from along Southbank or Kangaroo Point at night for skyline shots.

Brisbane City of Light!

Postby zafra52 on Mon Aug 21, 2006 4:50 pm

Wendellt, I agree with Manta. Brisbane has changed since Expo 88 and it has been for the better. Have a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/riverfire but even if you are not here for the event you will find lots of photo opportunities in the CBD. I see Elffinarts is going to be your guide so enjoy your stay.
