Portrait workshop

Hi all - at some stage, can some of the more experienced guys/girls here help us out with some portrait advice please.

Would love to have a workshop on this sometime.

It seems that this area is one of my current weaknesses, and one I would like to improve.

Sheepie... I reckon a portrait workshop would be a great idea and should be pretty easy to setup... anyone else with thoughts?

I have actually been considering taking a course in Portrait / Family photography.

Obviously a workshop here would be much better

It would be good to maybe run it over either two days or two weekends where the first day / weekend we cover technique, backgrounds etc... Then the second day / weekend we actually get our subjects (or some willing subjects) to test on.

Just my thoughts...

I will see if I can convince Belinda, but I think my chances are slim :) I will try (for the forum of course!) :)

No, I prefer the real models. There's some interaction and communication that needs to occur, in order to get the model to pose as you want them to. Cant get that sort of response when talking with a teddy bear, I'm afraid.

Don't believe that this model would need to be anything more or less than a forum member or relative... the aim would be to learn the basic mechanics rather than worrying whether the subject was magazine material.

What makes you think they'll be wearing underwear?

Craig, March 20 is when we're anticipating having the Jenolan Caves trip. If you've not seen the caves, this would be a great opportunity for you to do so.

I tried this but the model/teddy wouldn't sign the 'Model Release Form', even after i filled it out for it.

Now where would one find a source of willing models? Perhaps I'll go ask in the Dolly forums...

Boy, I am sure jealous you guys have all these meets and such. I really wish we had a group like this here, so I can get useful tips. I am such a newbie, it's not even funny.

If any of you wanna come up here anytime soon for a meet I can take you ice fishing or we can play hockey or something.

With portraits IMO the best way is to grab a friend or two and practice different techniques. Daylight, flash a mix of both etc.

Then when you are ready you can ask Claudia Schiffer for a session

I would rather skip the first few things you mentioned, what were they again, and go straight to 'Claudia Schiffer' :!: .

I heard that you can catch polar bears when you're ice fishing by using peas. Apparently you place the peas in a circle and when the polar bear comes up for a pea you kick him in the ice-hole.

I am interested in this 'ice fishing'. Surely when you cook it up, it would melt. ??? Do you drink it instead???
