Ideas? 18th Hole Wedding Picture -

How about some brainstorming.

For some wedding pictures in late May I've been asked by the groom to include three special pictures at the 18th hole of the beautiful golf course where the reception is being held in the mid-afternoon.

1. Bride and Groom at the 18th Hole
2. Groom's men at the 18th Hole
3. Groom and father at the 18th Hole.

Trying to get some ideas for the shot. Has anyone ever done one like this before or have any suggestions?

(I'm assuming they have made arrangements so no one will be playing through at the time, but I will check to be sure. Now, that would be really interesting!)

Take a putter or two with you and get them to putt a few balls in the hole.

Steve - if you are into a little bit of PP I would suggest a pre wedding macro or close up of a golf ball and then superimpose the couple on the ball - it would certainly make for a different shot and one they would not be expecting

I'll give that a try. I'm reasonably good with most of Photoshop. (It would take a lifetime to really master it.)

Steve - had another one which is way out

Take a photo of a tee with grass showing so that anyone can see it is a real close up. Then photograph the couple sitting together.

Deep etch them out and sit them on top of the tee - I was very much into the Land of the Giants years ago so you can see were my warped mind goes

Also get him or her putting from a fair distance from the hole.
Have them coming to the end of stroke (so the action look) and have the ball half way between the putter and the hole and have him or her with the flag out with all the emotion of sinking a shot from long distance.

Have you been to the 18th hole? Are there any bunkers near this hole. You could do some sort of peakaboo shots out of the bunker

See also if you can hire/borrow a motorised buggy. Have them zipping around in the buggy or hanging out of it. Might make for some fun shots.

Chris - That sounds interesting too.
I think I would also use a background, either sharp or slightly blurred that showed the 18th Hole flag.

I think the whole thing would be like one of those special lenses they were touting a few years back for movie film that were sharp from about an inch to infinity, breaking all of the then known rules of optics.

Yeah that'd be mad Socal, to have a really really crisp lense from close to infinity and have a shot of a tee closeup with the couple sitting together in the background.

Was wondering if there was ways around this with PP.
Three identical shots - focus on closest, focus on mid, focus on farthest. Then make blend masks to suit depth. Hmmm.

Get action and fun into the pictures. After all, that's what these special pictures are about. A cart would be great! The groom's a terrible driver and so is his father! "And... Action!"

I haven't been able to view the site, it's 500 miles away. The groom is my nephew so I can get him to take scouting pictures for me well before the May 28th W-Day.

I have no aversion to post processing and compositing a shot from several different images to get what I need so don't limit your thinking to just one click of the shutter. I'm a patient guy with lots of time.

I love those "comedy" shots that show that, all in all, it was a fun day.

I'd try to get one with the groom striding to his putt with the bride, suitably grumpy expression clearly visible, dragging the golf cart behind her.

How about having the Groom being the Brides caddy. Not only lugging the golf clubs but also the suitcases.
OR
Make the groom the hole! Have him lying down with his mouth open with the bride about to "chip" the ball into the "hole" I was going to suggest you include the flag but that would be taking it too far..
