seriously, the moon is gonna be the biggest/closest to this earth this weekend.

I am going to get down to Dawes Point or the cahill expressway to try and nail it against the opera house. it is rising in the arvo so I am thinking sunday.

Need to find a 1.4 extender. Wonder whether it will work with the 200f4 zoom.

OK, a few more details

Sunday 6th is the best day for this I reckon, the moon rise is at 5pm, so with some luck the pastel colours of the sunset will light up the eastern side, on this day the moon also lines up nicely with the opera house (when viewed from Dawes points or on the southern end of the bridge).
I think the bridge may be a bit high in terms of getting the sails as teh horizon and possibly on ground level it maybe too low, i think I may get there a bit early and try and scope out the best position, any one know of good spots there?

I basically want a shot with the sails and the moon in the joins.

here's the TPE screenie

Lets hope for no clouds.

How about we hang in that area so that we have the option or shooting from bridge or from ground level?

Agree the bridge will be way too high - I was happy to go with ground level but there's also the park sort of thing directly under the bridge which is up higher (probably a quarter/third of the way up from water level to the undercarriage of the bridge) (right next to the southern main pilon on the city side of the pilon). Not sure how the tree's obstruct the view - but last time I was there I was trying to frame a pic with the SOH with my UWA so with a telephoto we should hopefully find big enough gaps to have a clear path. Either way theres a direct path from that park coming down to ground level so we can move back and forth easily. It's a long way from there tho to get up onto the deck of the bridge if we wanted to.

Im keen... I will pack gear and wonder down after work.

Down on Hickson Rd, right under the bridge you should be able to get some possible lines....the other alternative is down in Campbells Cove. However the Telephotos may prove to be a bit long from here.

I just drove on the bridge, and agree that it's way too high to be on it. I reckon ground level will be the go.

i think Dawes point, right down on teh water is the place to be - that said there is two shots for this location imo. When on the bridge you can get the moon just on the horizon and the tip of the top sail - if you get your dancing shoes on after that you can scoot on down to the water edge and nail it as it gets higher - note it as to get well above the horizon to pass the sails when perceived from teh waterline.

Given that I will have had plenty of excerise by Sunday soI think i will just sit on my fat ass down at water level on Dawes point.

Check out google streetview for hickson rd - really you could just screen capture that and plonk a moon in.

We should just hire a boat and ride further out to the end of the world; then we can truly rub shoulders with it...

I didn't get a chance to venture too far from home, so captured a couple from a nearby overpass.

I haven't done much post so white balance is likely to be off.

Went down to the local beach which was pretty lumpy with a huge sea spray like fog.
1st thought: Bad choice for a location..

Anyway....

I'm afraid I was in the wrong spot too. My excuse is that there were cliffs in the way. I couldn't relocate quickly enough.

There was also a murky brown haze that killed the moon.

Aww come on - it wasn't that bad :), company and conversation was good and the dinner was very nice :) and we didn't even get collected by the drunk and no parking fines so Suren's gotta be happy with that :)

He made up for it - just had lunch with Cam now and he brought me toys :)

On a side note - I like your image above Suren - I like all the faint blues (something I was trying for in one of mine (however mine was probably too faint/dark)) and even the crane which you incorporated as part of the image.
