For the Westies. So to speak.

Didn't know there was an airport at Mallala!

You'll definately need a car once you're in Adelaide - from memory, Mallala is miles out from even the northern reaches of the suburbs.

Then again, I may be wrong. (has happened once or twice)

Please Note: Adelaide to Mallala is 50Kms

If I were you, I would fly and hire a car at the Adelaide Airport.
Mallala is in a very hot and dry location in SA. So you will need a large hat, plenty of sunscreen, and aeroguard for flies.

Goodbye for now,

I personally have not been to Mallala, so I can not speak for the locals. If you intend to stay anywhere north of Adelaide, I would avoid Elizabeth at all costs. Gawler would probably be your best bet. BTW: When is the car racing on :?: .

Cheers,

I think that Mallala is fine. If I were you I would stay in the Barossa or somewhere (like Nuriootpa). It has some nice wineries and stuff. Mallala is very boring and small! It's not really that far to drive to Adelaide from Melbourne (maybe 8 or 9 hours) so you could drive, but more comfortable to fly.

Hi ya All, I have yet to get there as this is one place i wish to visit as well when there is a motorcycle meeting or something. Times when i have been up there in Adelaide there has been nothing on at the time so yeh it is on my agenda some stage soon.
If your going to drive from Melb you can go direct or swing by the coast way via here Mt Gambier and get a snaps on the way.
Cheers

theres a drift event going on next weekend at the race park.
i've been covering it since july last year and this is the final event( number 4 i believe)
but i don't know if its economical to go.
$160 plane trip
$180 hotel
$120 car hire
just to get there and the fact i won't make much after image usuage rights and the usual print sales to drivers.

heres a brief explanation lifted from drifting.com

Drifting is a high-skill, high-powered motorsport that calls for drivers to control a 450hp car while it slides sideways at high speed through a marked course. It is similar to rally racing, but is done on a closed course and judged on execution and style rather than who finishes the course fastest. Drifting takes all the thrilling moments of traditional motorsports and packs it together into non-stop competition. The D1 Grand Prix takes the excitement one step further by being the only drifting competition that features aggressive side-by-side action as finalists burn up the course two-at-a-time often only inches apart.

Drifting pros finesse their cars into spectacular powerslides around a series of corners of a set course as powerful engines roar and the tires bellow smoke. The driver controls engine power, shifts gears and feathers the brake pedal, while at the same time spinning the steering wheel in a precise fashion from left to right linking corners with pinpoint accuracy. The driver is controlling and maneuvering the car beyond the limits of the tires' traction.

here are some pic that i've done during these events

thanks John,
if your free during the event why not take a look at drifting, it a very fun to shoot than normal motorsports. as practice/ judging both look the same, as there usually one car at a time.

Im currently trying to scrounge up enough money for a DSLR while i make do with the F801.
I used to shoot rally in the forests of Canberra, so i got pretty used to panning then. Would be good to see you out here sometime later in the year. If i have my car out by then you might even be able to take some shots first hand from the sillyseat.

Hi Takai, Welcome to the group, yes we all have been in that situating at some stage, saving for a DSLR and well it takes time but yes on the ralling as i have only been to our track here oneday when i had my Fuji but havent yet tackled the pines yet. We have a few rally's here and once a year we have a big one but will get to it oneday.

Thai, mate that is something that doesn'y happen down here, drifting but the young ones prolly do it somewhere and well we have drags now and then but i have not yet atten this. I have a busy month ahead with all the motorbike meetins held at out local track here and a schedual for the rally club as well. So lots of fun and maybe a few bucks$$$ as well i hope so i can lust a lil bit more.
Cheers

I'd reckon there'll be a pretty big crowd there, as it'll be the last V8SC race at Oran Park! :(
