To remove stubborn dust you could use some pec pads and eclipse fluid or go the whole way by using the copper hill DSLR cleaning kit
http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=tutorials
These guys stock the kit, not sure if you can get it in shops in Adelaide though

Personally I've only had dust visible shooting a clear sky at f16 and above so I've haven't had to resort to wet cleaning methods...yet

Warren - I would recommend that you purchase the following item for wet cleaning on-line:
http://www.qualitycamera.com.au/product ... ts_id=1351
Delivery normally 2-3 days.
Wet cleaning needs to be done in a room with no windows open or air conditioning running. What time do you expect to be in Adelaide prior to the meet? (As I may be able to clean your CCD prior to the meet).

Warren - they are not available in retail stores.
Seeing that you are going to be in Town prior to the meet, is your camera still under warranty, as you are entitled to one free clean from the Nikon agent:
Adelaide Technical Camera Service
Level 1 - Unit 2
163 Halifax Street
Adelaide
Contact: Mr. Hajime Niijima
Tel: 82240321

Why not get the cleaning kit (hopefully still in time) and attend the meet. Then let someone show you how to clean it?
Its certainly not for the faint hearted for the first time. But if somebody shows you how to do it, you will learn much quicker and get more confident in doing it.

Warren - make sure that your battery is fully charged before going to Adelaide Technical Camera Service to have the CCD sensor cleaned. Also bring along the camera manual, so I can read the procedure to expose the CCD sensor for cleaning of your D50.

Warren - I will bring my cleaning kit, and we will see if we can find a suitable place to clean, if only in your 4WD. Not ideal, but you never know.
