Just stumbled across this... for more details follow the link. Could be a good thing!?

http://www.stevecuff.com/employment.php

We require up to 10 photographers to assist in shooting the World Police and Fire Games event in Adelaide 16-25 March 2007. We shoot this event on speculation with images available for resale to the competitors, so we require people with good work ethic to shoot consistent saleable images each day.

To be considered for the event you would need to meet the following criteria as a professional or semi professional photographer who has a good understanding of sports photography.

Should you not meet the criteria but are still interested in shooting this event for experience we have limited positions for assistants to help out with various tasks which would prove beneficial for aspiring photographers and give you a good understanding of what it takes to be a sports photographer.

'Aye, I'm working for Steve for the World Police & Fire Games next month. Top bloke, met him once while he was in Adelaide a few weeks ago.

I'm sure there are a heap of people here who definitely have the enthusiasm and gear to apply. The outline on the website of requirements spell out whats required in Black and White though.

damn even the assistant gig would be awesome, if only more events did things like this for those wanting experience.

this looks like a great opportunity.

strange criteria, 6MP minimum...

so they would prefer a D70 to a D2hs for SPORTS?

good luck and enjoy to those who secure a spot.

I won't be applying to work at the games, but I'll definitely be going to have a look at some events. It's worth noting that entry to all the events (including the opening ceremony) is free!

Cheers

They might, but I don't! :D

This did seem a bit strange, I do know that D2h/s is still popular with media and sports photogs (and in some cases, it's because of the 4MP which has much smaller and faster files to wade through after the shoot).

It's just a general statement so they don't get people applying who want to shoot with their point and shoot digicams... If you have a D2H and you know what you're doing I doubt very much that you would be rejected on the basis of your camera (providing people are still required).

Jonesy, you might want to update the title of this thread as it's for the "World Police and Fire Games". The Australasian Masters Games are between 5-14 October 2007.

Some mention of the Masters Games is still relevant. Sports Photographics Australia is covering that event as well and it is larger again, so there will be even more opportunities for photographers to shoot events then.

But yes, the WPFG are first... :)

thanks for the heads up on this one.

I am wishfully hoping that I may be able to combine work (at the Office for Rec and Sport here in Adelaide) with pleasure.

My CEO is part of the organising committee for the WPFG ...if only I could convince him that I need this as part of my professional development!!

cheers

I think you can expect a reply any time after the 23rd of Feb. Usually communication is quite prompt regardless of where Steve Cuff (the business owner) is but he is somewhere without such good internet connectivity right now. :o

I heard from him today via email

Steve said he will ring next week to clarify some key conditions (that I presume will discount a newbie/wannabe sports photgrapher like me)

good luck to those members who get a gig - it should be hectic but rewarding experience :D

cheers R2

just being realistic!! no suitable laptop or enough experience working under 'pressure' of such an event I feel.
It was nice to get a personl reply though!

Ah OK, the lack of a laptop is a real limitation... :(
