Ill be heading in next week at some point...

On a side note, ive just been informed that "proffesional" camera's are now a no go at the Melbourne Zoo, from what i have heard someone got told they couldnt take their 70-200 and 100-400 in.... Any word of this sort of thing here in SA? Im sure if it comes in there will be a lot of unhappy people, and a downturn in memberships....

Doctor - that is very sad news. I was at Melbourne Zoo midway through November, 2008 and walked in with a D2x + Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4TC mounted on a monopod with no problems.

Also at Adelaide Zoo twice last weekend, with the same setup, without difficulty.

So I will test the waters tonight.

I suspected if anyone would know, it would be you Fozzie,

He tried again today, and got turned down with his 100-400 on a 50d to be told it was only during holiday periods that he couldnt, any other day is fine.....

Im working tonight so i wont be visitng the zoo, but ill be in there next week, have fun everyone!

What is annoying about that is there is nothing on their website to indicate any sort of photographic restriction. At least with sporting events it is written on the ticket or is on the web page so you know. At Monarto and Adelaide Zoo, they refer to us as the "camera guys" and we get pretty good treatment from all of the staff - heck Fozzie was even given staff discount at the canteen one week..

Obviously the serious risk that "professional cameras" pose doesn't apply outside of school holidays...

Hi,
I am please to inform no restrictions were imposed at ADELAIDE ZOO tonight ... several forum members got together this evening and the collection of cameras and lenses certainly would have attracted attention if there was going to be any issue ..
perhaps the issue is more around potentially photographing children during the school holiday period ? PS had a great time meeting a few more members ..and of course catching up with the regulars

Fun night indeed, the lemurs especially were having a ball!

And thanks to rookie2 for the lend of his 70-200, just checked the price (post rise) and think I'll be having to wait a little longer before getting my own - now around 3k!

Cheers

It was nice to finally catch up again with both old and new members on a mild Adelaide eve!

I got a few tips from Fozzie re shooting the big cats ( ) but alas missed the really good 'cat fight' that took place - I'm sure others will post some of that action.

Heres a few of my efforts...Having signed up as a member, I'm looking forward to spending more time learning from the pros!!

cheers good people
