Very nice Fozzie.
Out of interest, what lens were you using?
Thanks
Daniel

First three, Nikon 70-200VR + TC17EII (My equipment)

Next three, Sigma 70-300 (xorl lens)

We changed equipment about half way, so xorl could get the feel of the 70-200VR + TC17EII.

Do you know why the first and third images look a little soft? I thought it might have been some camera movement, but the VR should have removed that.

The light was uneven (mid afternoon), plus it was shot through perspex.

Then for comparison, shots taken earlier with the same equipment in the open:

Ah, the perspex would be the cause. I don't know which is worst, shooting through perspex or wire mesh. :D

I am hopeful of going back while on holidays in June. Then I will select a day when it is overcast (even light and no reflection) and fine, to get better captures. I was not at all happy with the results on 25 April, 2005  .
I would love to take shots of lions and tigers in their natural habitat :) .

Back in December I took some shots. The sun was out and hot, so the animals were lethargic as well as the photographer. The cages and mesh drove me mad. The 70-300G insisted on focusing on the fences.

p.s. I bought the 50mm f1.4, as well as a SB-800. Haven't really tried them out yet, but they look very nice. :D

You will enjoy the SB-800. Can not comment on the 50mm f/1.4 as I do not have one. BTW: I too found that the Sigma 70-300 hunted a fair bit as well.

I have just had a look at the Nikon 70-300G on the Maxwell site, and it didn't look to be the same lens. I have been wrong before, so we have to wait until xorl comes along.
