Who is interested in visiting 'Gluepot' :?:

This may for some require Saturday accommodation nearby.

Something to take into consideration is that to gain entry, you need a key to get through two locked gates. A key is available from the Waikerie Shell Service Station on payment of a refundable deposit of $10. The Service Station is open from 6 am to 8 pm seven days a week.

If anybody has any additional information on Gluepot, please add to this post.

Starters: Marvin. Big 'V', robw25 and Lorraine, hame, psionic, and me, fozzie :)

Cheers,

Its strange but i live at Waikerie and still have not actually been out there yet :? but have been meaning to but i guess with kids and there sports on weekends all year round never find the time..

It has been very dry up here and i dont think i have had any rain since the start of the year and if so perhaps 1 inch in total so i am not sure if that is good or bad for bird watching.. it may make them all go to the last remaining water sites so easy to spot or there numbers may not be doing all that well

BUT i do believe/hope that this thursday and friday inparticular we may at last get some rain of perhaps 20 mm or more if a thunderstorm eventuates from moisture from the north west of W.A

There are a few places to stay here with the waikerie hotel, waikerie caravan park, sunlands caravan park, house boat hire company called grean and gold i think and a big boat down on the river called murry princess (i think .. its only been here a year i think ) AND i think if you keen on getting some early morning shots i presume you can camp out at glupot in certain parts but am not sure

What time of year were you thinking? it was bloddy cold here monday morning with -2 c and today at 7.30 it was a nice and warm 4 c lol

Also i think the shell servo. is open till 10 pm and expect to pay 10cents a l more than your city prices !!

Sorry for not reading the post fully by Fozzie.. I now see the date is 30 th october :!:

No football or hockey for my kids this weekend so seeing as its a long weekend for who knows what here in S.A. i may have a look out there if time permits

Yesterday i took this sunrise pic and if you look hard over that tree about 40 km you will see glue pot

I know the pics look like they have a lot of noise but at that particular moment (6.55 am to 7.05 am) the clouds were like that which was why i got my camera out but any coments welcome

hame,

Nice shots: the sky is on fire

Selected this time of the year for a number of reasons. According to the website, best time to visit is between April - October, due to climate. Also one of our members is from Whyalla (robw25: Nikon 200-400VR) and he is a shift worker, so this worked in well with his work commitments. It would also be great if you could see your way clear to join us. Certainly hope we can find other members interested as time goes by.

Footnote: we also have other members in the country:

'Marvin' - Riverland and 'BBJ - South East'

Fozzie,

Just had my OS tripped delayed until Xmas :-( So it should be safe to add me to the Gluepot starters list.

I have friends and Family around that area and will probably bunk down with them and meet everyone on site.

Regards

/M. PS: Add another tick to the Nikon column

I don't think I'll be able to make this one since I've got a formal dinner on Saturday night. There is little chance I'll be able to get up earlier enough to be there in time.
I'm looking forward to seeing the photos tho'! :D.

This coming Wednesday afternoon I will contact 'Gluepot Reserve' to ascertain the condition of the road leading to and inside the Reserve, in view of the amount of rain we have had in the City and Country in the past 7-10 days. On Wednesday evening I will update this post.

I have just taken this information from the Bureau of Meteorology:

TOWNS AND CITIES for Sunday.
Renmark 25 Late shower or two. (Closet Town to Waikerie listed)
Murray Bridge 21 Shower or two. Possible thunder.

FOLLOWING THREE DAYS :
Monday : Cool to mild and cloudy with scattered showers becoming isolated
during the evening. Isolated thunderstorms contracting to the east by mid
afternoon. Moderate west to southwest winds.
Tuesday : Isolated early morning showers then fine. Mild with light winds
tending moderate northerly later.
Wednesday : Fine apart from isolated showers about the Murraylands. Cool to
mild with moderate to fresh westerly winds.

Ok, here goes!
What do people think about postponing the meet for a few weeks? It has rained a lot here in the Riverland lately and I think the road will be quite boggy and horrible. It is supposed to rain again on Saturday and has rained all day today. I am not too keen to take my car down the road for over an hour in boggy conditions (Big V and I had a horrible experience on a Riverland road that is normally very dry and good!). Mid-late November should have nice road and weather conditions. Also, the mozzies at the moment are BAD and HUGE!
Just a thought, but I am happy to go with the majority.
Marvin

Mild to warm with mainly moderate northeast to north winds.

You have to add to the above fozzie:

 and the major factor is, if my D2x arrives on time otherwise, I'm out

Birddog, the D2x was a secret that only got let out of the bag last night... It is probably the only Nikon I want to play with....

To all concerned,

In view of pending rain on Saturday in the region, I will leave ringing Gluepot until late that afternoon for the latest road conditions.

Alternative weather map from weatherzone:

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/local/loc ... pcode=5330

Otherwise we will have to just amuse ourselves. With 'Big V' and 'Marvin' around that will not be very hard at all

So did any of you guys go there or was the weather no good? I would have liked to go but finances didn't allow it.

I'd be interested to see some shots from the area or whatever trip you did do!
