Nice pics Embi and Jamie. Thanks Wayne for organising the outing today. :) As it turned out the weather was just right...even without the chief forecaster! Greg...your absence was noted.

It was great to meet some of the newer members and catch up with everyone. Norm was showing off his D2X...well actually he spent the morning trying to keep Darryl from drooling all over it. We wandered down past Southbank and finished up around Polly Woodside. Lots of great photographic opportunities.

Darryl and I continued on this arvo to get our fix for birds. I can report that we finally got to see a Wedge-tailed Eagle!

Yes, it was a great turn out! Not having an eye for good composition, I had a hard time taking photo's. But it was certainly an experience and I would do it again. Sorry, I didn't get around to personally meeting you all but hopefully the next time we meet. Looked like you all enjoyed yourselves.
Here are a few I took.
Cheers, Jase. :D

I turned up late and only really said hello to Bootros (Andrew) & Ray. Never seen so many D70s in one place at one time!

Anyway, these are some of mine…

Great turnout today! :) Thanks to everyone who came and looking forward to the photos, especially Darryl's creative captures (there were hardly any birds for him :P)

Apologies about the end for not saying bye. Started talking with Baboo and thought everyone was heading down towards Flinders....turned around and everyone had disappeared

In brief summary, the consisted of:
a) great weather
b) great turnout
c) trying to figure out who was who :)
d) one wet kid
e) one lustful kid  or a few :P
f) great pics

Enough chatter, time to post up some pics :)

Cheerio,

Wayne

Ahh, k. So Hudo (aka Mark) was the guy with the kid :)
Names to faces, it's always hard.

I remember the first D70 dinner meet I went to, I was trying to remember names to faces.

Not upto the standard that I demand with bird photos. More of just a shot to show that we actually saw it. This is a juvenille Wedge Tail Eagle, well I'm 99.9% certain that it is. The reason I think this is the plumage on the bird (then again given the light it's hard to tell). However it looked very similar to the bird that a SA member posted (was it Rob?) of a Wedge Tail Eagle. The Juvenilles tend to have golden feathers (hard to see in this shot) around the head and from the neck to the first layer on the front edge of the wing. After the 1st year they start to lose it and become quite darker and almost greyish brown. I still can't believe it in comparison to the sheep that's on the ground dead. It's a huge bird!

Looks like the Melbourne branch had a great meet! And some great images. Good to see you guys getting out and hope to bash the sidewalk with you all one day. The only thing I don't like about Melbourne is that it's not in Sydney!   Oh, and wish you a speedy recovery Greg! Get well. Use alchohol.

Matt.K,

Come down for our next time :D And the reason why it's not Sydney is because it's 10x better   In Nikon terms, Melbourne is a D2X and Sydney is a D100 :P :P At least I didn't say it was a 300D ;)

Oh and I had a great chat with your protégé.

From the shots shown by numerous members one can assume that this day was a great success with many different perspectives on shooting techniques - well done to all :D

Thankyou very much kind Sir! Still learning and practising, and loving it. Although I still haven't got photoshop down pat yet :?

Had a fabulous morning in the wonderful Melbourne sunshine, and really should do it again .

Now, when is the next one??

Well guys. From the number of quality images here I'd say you all had a great time. Maybe you need to put in a bid to host the 2006 Anniversary meet

Guilty as charged Stormy. Unfortunately, in anticipation of a really crap day (based on Saturday), I agreed to
help a mate out moving some furniture. Of course, the sun shone brightly etc etc.
Curses (not for the good weather, for my stupidity).

Damn damn damn.

Stormgirl, I'm blown away by your shots! The cloud reflections in the window's are amazing! Certainly gives me something to think about when I'm taking shots. It's great to see a deverse range of perspectives. I also love Embi's 2nd shot too. Very nice!
Cheers, Jase. :D

Ah I am presuming my second shot is the rowers???

Unless of course you are counting the drunk D70 user who is skulling the second bottle of vino as number 1

Greg......You're forgiven. Just don't do it again! Although I must tell you I wasn't going until 8am that morning when my Husband said there were clear skies outside! Glad I made the effort, had a fabulous time!

Waspo..... Thanks! I actually thought mine would be pretty average, but I'm actually quite happy with the results. Hope to post some more tonight (there's nothing on tele!!).

Piro.......I saw the flags and thought it may be interesting. The wonders of digital photography. If it turns out crap, just delete! Though my PPing with the last one leaves a lot to be desired  . I'll get there one day!!

I like the wino, rowers and corner shed. Oh, and the action you used on them. Great stuff! :D

Oh, and Stormgirl...do you mind if I hang with you next time for some tips?
Cheers, Jase.

Sure you can! Although I'm not entirely sure what tips to give you! Basically I point and shoot, add a few adjustments and point and shoot again!! If it looks good in the view finder, I press the shutter!!

It is great to see other people's ideas on the same subject, different perspectives, settings etc. A great way to learn!

I failed to make it clear in my last post that it was not ME who took the offending pic but ANOTHER member who attended,
so who do you think it was?, it really could be only one melbourne member when you think about it.

Very nice images, stormygirl. Was it with the 70-300 G or the kit lens?

Thanks

Thankyou Alex! I'm not sure how to recover the EXIF details in Picasa 2 or photoshop, but I have both lenses, so at a guess, I would say 1,3 and 5 were the kit, and the 70-200 G for 2 and 4!

I have posted some more images over here http://www.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?p=84837#84837

Some awesome images here guys. I which I could "see" the design elements some of you have with the structure shots. We had a great day and where glad to put some faces to the names. Can't wait for the next one. Keep posting those images though.
