Next Melbourne Meet - any ideas?

Ok Melbourne folks....I think it's time we organised another meet. Mudder did such a fine job last time. Some suggestions have been talked about in the past (i.e. Botanic Gardens). Any ideas?
Also, has anyone got a preference for dates? Easter is personally out for me. Maybe a weekend after Easter? All thoughts and ideas appreciated.

And where were
you last Friday evening?
There were about 17 of us partying at Toto's on Lygon St, and I think it's fair to say that a good time was had by all.

Hi Nicole. Great idea. Somewhere close to the city would be great (I don't have a car.) Sunday & Monday are my RDOs.

Yes I know!
Somebody decided to invite people around for dinner. I would say our night wasn't as much fun as yours though!

I'm all for sometime after Easter. Easter weekend I'm going down to Tower Hill/Koroit/Port Fairy, so that weekend is out.

I'm in. I have various complications over the next several weekends through to end April, however they shouldn't preclude some meet type action.
As to the where, good question. I guess it depends what we are looking for - the gardens will always be purdy, but there are other options (he said, desperately trying to think of some...any).
OK, thinking caps on.

HI
What about Melbourne events on a weekend?
While in the city, we can take candids, archetiture etc.. ... should provide enough variety to satisfy all.

Some great suggestions. So far we have:
1. Cityscapes
2. Yarra Valley
MeicW, if we did do something out of the city someone might be able to give you a lift?
Some suggested dates are Sunday 10th/17th April. The weekend after is a long weekend. Perhaps we should get a poll going? Firstly...any more ideas?

I'm definately keen. How about St. Kilda Beach area, Docklands, Portsea (pub for lunch)...
Also a CCD cleaning party would be good.
The weekends of 10 and 17 April work for me as well.
Cheers

Deano,
CCD cleaning is recommend to do indoor and with a PC or laptop.

Hi Alex. Either April 10th or 17th at this stage. So far it looks like it will be in the city. I'll wait until Wednesday to see if a few more people vote and then we can confirm details.
Excellent. Hope to see many of you there

I'm up for anything as I'm new
Possible meet up place could be around the north end of the Flagstaff Gardens as that's near Vic market
Plenty photo ops and ye old architecture as well, mixed with the new as Docklands is within a 5 minute drive. Also there are plenty of cafes there as well.
Just my 2c.
Cheers,
Wayne

Pirostich, update your location in your profile.
NOTE TO ADMIN: can you put somewhere in the welcome page for this and make it so that they have maybe Town, State, Country in their location. Or if they don't want to put town maybe SE Suburbs or something.

This could be really good, guys! Would be great to put faces to names! I'm not sure if I'm free ,yet, and possibly not the 10th, but maybe the 17th. I will let you know if I can make it once the details are confirmed, and it's a bit closer to the day........if that's OK?

I am a goer for the 17th but not the tenth.
Nicole, I reckon that no-one has difficulties with the 17th, can
we lock it in?
Anybody have a problem with 17th?????????

I say 17th it is! I think we should lock in Cityscapes/Docklands too as that's where the votes are going. I will most likely drive and park around the gardens. Perhaps we could all meet at Flinders St station?

but willing to learn.

As long as you know how to enjoy yourself Alex
There will be no tests, no marks, no anything but a desire to hang around with a bunch of people with cameras and take photos of stuff, talk about anything you like, and have a few laughs.
Nicole, I am thinking that Flinders Street Station might be a slightly tricky meeting spot, even on a Sunday there will be a degree of mayhem and a bunch of dodgy characters. I think we need somewhere we can park nearby, even if we move off later. What do you think?
We need to agree a time too.

Hi Nicole,
Sounds good to me too. Thanks for putting the pieces together - it is not easy. I am looking forward to it. Thanks again.

Don't worry, Alex, I'm VERY shy! But I'm going to endeavour to come along and join in the fun! I think it will be great to meet all of you as we all share something in common, and that is a great start! (Shame our music tastes differ
).
If it's the 17th, than I'm free at this stage, but I do have a few important things in the pipeline that no date has been set yet, so I am still not a definate.

Greg, whereabouts are the best parking spots in the city? I always catch the train to work so the only places I really know about are around the Botanic Gardens because it's free!
We could always meet up at the Observatory Cafe at the Botanic Gardens and go from there. If there is a better parking spot we can meet somewhere near there. As for meeting time, I'm thinking around 9am...but then i am a morning person!
As Greg says...main thing is to have fun and talk cameras!

Nicole, at 9am ( and I am happy with that time too) on a sunday, parking should not be a problem in the city as long as we aren't right next to the market.
Locations....
The botanic gardens would be fine
Up around the flagstaff gardens (closer to the docklands precinct, and walkable to the market area if we feel like it)
Almost anywhere in the heart of the CBD
the gardens just opposite the arts centre, plenty parking at that time
Anyone else got any ideas?

Are these meets for the members only or one can bring a partner?

Just place a camera or light meter around your partners neck
Just kidding, over in Sydney everyone is invited
I am sure this applies to Melbourne as well.

Make your partner wear the D70USERS strap with the D70 camera and you have the camera bag or backpack then all are eligible
