POSTPONED: Portrait Workshop (MEL) Sunday Sept 27

Hello Mexicans,
Wanted to gather interest among the members in running another workshop. September is finals season, so thinking the day after the grand final, Sunday 27th September.

Thinking to keep costs down we could hire a hall and set up some sets rather than a dedicated studio? Since its cyclone season having an indoor space as a backup and a place to get out of the wind would be a good idea. We could hire a church hall, a scout hall, or even a place of interest. I wonder if Black Rock House would be of interest, its gardens are popular for wedding togs and the house is set up as per original 1860's. This may cost a few hundred dollars so that could be say $20 each pending numbers...

I'm also thinking since we have made use of flash (mains and portable) at our last few meets, how about we focus on using natural light. How to control it, bounce it, deflect it, scrim it, fill it, shoot it...

Any nominations for interested subjects to sit for us also key. We could arrange to find models also depending on suitability.

So, at this stage, if you could put your hand up to register interest :agree:

Still several days off so may change, but looking slightly problematic for an outdoor shoot at this stage. Thoughts anyone?

Since we are in melbourne, we need some cover as we might get rain.

How about the following;

Fitzroy Gardens
Meet at The Old Band Stand (http://kayo8.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/fitzroy_gardens.gif)
Sunday 27th September
Meet 1030am
You can get the train to Jolimont station just across the street, or park in Clarendon or Landsdowne Streets.
I have arranged for a number of models to come and pose for portraits in the gardens.

Bring:
your camera
lunch (or there is a kiosk there)
something reflective (zip/disc reflectors is simple white card etc)
an off camera flash if you have one.
your favourite joke as to why the Saints will need to wait another 66 years...

Weather forecast is poor, so thinking we postpone. I feel it would be cruel to ask a model to pose TFP in these conditions.

Concensus?

Unfortunately, this event will have to be postponed.

The weather forecast for this weekend is cold, wet and miserable
with 55 km winds on Sunday. To the enormous relief of our brave models, Bruce is advising them that they are off the hook.

Hopefully we can reschedule soon.

Good call...The models are humans afterall and I would feel for them. Had a wedding shoot last year with strong chilly winds blowing and 11C max (late Nov) and the girls were freezing!

Just left Melbourne today and I would think it's wise to call it off. Today was a horrible day with wind, rain and general miserableness.

So good to be back...although it's a tad dusty.

On the other hand you would have had nice fill light...

Actually, I might need a new avatar!

Official announcements will be made in a few days once the last bits of paperwork are signed, but I'll soon be going somewhere even colder to photograph!

:rotfl2: I was born there (but left after 2 weeks). I've lived there over a summer in the late '80s, but summer (which is what's coming up) is not amazingly cold. Not all of the time, anyway...

surenj wrote:Dave, don't tell us you are going to the north pole????

No, not quite that far north. Mind you, the North Pole is definitely easier to reach in summer (July) than the South Pole so maybe one day...

Any day now...
