Hi everyone,
Just to keep the momentum rolling, who's up for an August meet? To bounce off Kipper's idea, how about a night meet this time? We can bring our tripods , pitch forks, fires, marshmallows, swap photo war stories and in the morning, I'm makin' waffles. Hehe sorry just had to slip in the Shrek reference.
Anyway, let me know if you'll be interested and what day(s) suit.
Cheerio,
Wayne

I'll be up for that so long as there's a fare few people going. Wouldn't like to get mugged!.
Anyway, I'm sure there will be a few heavy tripods to swing around if we do.
Perhaps we should pick a quite night during the week for this.

COUNT ME IN!!!
Nights I'm NOT available include Fri 12th, Sat 13th, Sun 14th, Fri 19th, Sat 20th, Sun 21st. Otherwise I'll be there! I'm dying to take some night shots, had the remote for a while and haven't used it yet!
!
I agree a week night might be better, but that depends on time too (tricky with kids!). Whatever people decide I will try and be there.....sounds wonderful!

holy moley! That was quick!
Jase, I've walked down King street by myself at night with my tripod in hand
It'll be safe enough.
Jamie what do you do? 3am starts are a bit crazy...I go to sleep at 3
A weeknight would be the better thing to do I believe as it's much quieter...mind you if we went on a Friday night people would be wondering what's going on

J and I will be there. I wouldn't worry too much about safety. 30 D70's will get enough photographic evidence of the attacker to put him behind bars. Thats if he can stand up after the severe hiding from the heavy tripods. We'd prefer a Friday or Sat night

I'd be interested in making up for missing the last one.
I'll be away in Tassie during 7-12th but any other time is good for me atm.

Don't forget that the Anniversary Weekend in Sydney is on over 5, 6, 7 August so avoid that time.

May I suggest name tags?
It might just be me, but all the new faces are getting damn confusing. I guess thats mean to the faces because I know them, I could probably pick everyone out of a line-up, but i'd be stuffed if I had to put names to more than 5 or 6 of the names.
If i've offended anyone by not knowing your name, I apologise. These days I meet so many people that I am only going to see for an hour and then never again that I have conditioned myself to place the index card of names/faces in the very short term part of my brain..
So in short..
Nametags, ya!

Dean, you're never at meets so why would you need nametags!!!!

As dorky as it sounds its a good idea i think.
Im hopeless with names at the best of times, i can pick faces but never put a name to them, so i end up calling alot of people mate.

Maybe what we also need is a formal introduction at the start of a meet. I think this was lacking at the last one. Might make it easier.

That's a little harsh.. I didn't know about one of them and I just plain forgot about the last one..
I've been to 4 meets so far... never at meets indeed...

Hmm,
Not sure about dorky nametags. I think I'd much rather be confused for Nikonboy (someone might give me back his camera by accident)
Perhaps a compromise would be nametags on our cameras as I suspect we will always be carrying them & they will more often than not be up to our faces.

I'd prefer an intro at the start. Name tags are actually quite informal as people can just read your name rather than speak up and interact with the other person by asking them their name, etc.

I agree, this would warm things up a bit. (singing "Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...")
Any suggestions of what to photograph? I've always been interested in photographing the 'Ballerina' spire-thingy at the museum, from the Yarra.

How's August 26 sound? It's a Friday night, so we could go grab some dinner first before walking around the town like tourists
I know the night scene around Southbank is quite nice esp. when the fireballs are unleashed, but down St Kilda Road from the Arts centre towards the Shrine is also very nice.
