Northern Beaches early morning meet

Hi all,
I am getting more and more inspiration to organise a sunrise meet/walk on the Northern Beaches. I thought that the walk from Dee Why Headland to North Curl Curl via the coast starting just after sunrise would reveal the creativity in our members. What I'd like to know is a)who would be interested and b) when we should have this? I think that perhaps it's getting too late in the year to hold a meent now so perhaps mid January? If we then walked back via Rd (not too far but I could also have my car at the end of the coastal walk and drive anyone who couldn't walk back to Dee Why - then have coffee/lunch at one of the many cafe's along the Dee Why beach front.
If you are keen for this 0n a tentative date of Saturday the 14th or Sunday the 15th of Jan? An early start would be imperitive to a) minimise uncomort in the heat and b)get some brilliant sunrise shots.
The walk would be of easy-medium difficulty and those who weren't keen on the coastal walk could hang about the South End of Dee Why headland where there are some brilliant rock formations and a host of other great photo opportunities. The coastal walk (allowing time along the way would take approx 1.5hrs return).
If you are keen, please respond in THIS thread only.

Hi Marty,
We'd love to have you come along, and I'm hoping that member Wocka (and wife?) can come along too - he's a canon user...safety in numbers!!
Ok...what's best for everyone? Saturday or Sunday?

Yes, I just checked, Genista wants to go too. Thanks for asking because I'd forgotten about her.
Edit: Saturday is fine if there's no mini meet. Sunday is fine.

Lostdingo, it's hard but the rewards are well worth it. Colors vary so much in those 15-30min before sunrise, and when it hits the horizon....whoa.

Ok...
A few people mentioned their interest in the early morning Northern Beaches meet at the Xmas do. I am making a tentative (for the next few days then it will become a definite) for Sunday the 22rd of Jan, meeting at Dee Why beach between 5am and 6am, walk to North Curl Curl Beach via the headland and back to a breakfast at one of the lovely cafe's at Dee Why. Let me know most are ok with this please.
If we all get there early enough it will allow us to take some beach/rock photos then go for a healthy walk, get the blood pumping etc. I would classify the walk as 'moderate'in terms of difficulty and one way takes approx 30-40 mins.

Geoff, sounds good. I am hopefully putting a couple of bedrooms and bathroom on a deck (if I get permission), but that looks like being delayed

Geoff,
As I mentioned at the Xmas party and mini meet, I'm very keen. At the hour transport could pose a problem... getting up there in time to be the sun may require some creativity... I suggested sleeping at the beach.. but the safety of my kit is of some concern.. so I impose on a friendly 'Northerner' for a place to crash the Night before

Backpacking and overnight camping is another solution.

Too right, thanks for the suggestion Birdy...
Alternatively I could stage my own, Late night to early morning Shoot...
(any of the notherner's got whopping big telescopes ?)

I've just accepted Genista and Doug's kind offer... so I'll be staying in style and will be bright eyes and bushy tailed for the morning shoot!
As long as it doesn't fall between the 9th and 13th of January.
but thanks for the offer!

This already looks like a cast of thousands, and I'm quite keen, too. I could also take whoever needs a lift from the West (Hills area).
However, I have to wait and see whether my wife has to work that weekend (in which case I may not be able to come). I'll find out in early Jan.
Cheers
Steffen.

OK....
I'm bumping this thread as we are looming closer to the 22nd.
To all interested parties, please PM with your correct email address - I will then reply with a map of the area and my mobile number with where best to park/meet etc. Please be aware that the walk that is included in the meet will take approx 35-40mins ONE way...I anticipate to walk to North Curl via the beautiful coastline and then back via the road which may take a little less time. Of course people can definately opt to walk back via the track/headland if they wish. For those who choose not to do the walk, there are many photographic opportunities on the rock face (near the pool) at the headland - near where Scott (MHD) took his prize winning shot for the very first DSLR (then D70users) competition!!
We could end the walk at one of the many lovely cafe's along The Strand at Dee Why. Please PM me your email addresses so we can stay in touch that way. It's shaping up to be a fantastic meet!! I look forward to your PM's. Thanks.
Lost Dingo, Jeff and Marty - any more news on whether you guys can make it now?
