EOI - Northfort - Home of the National Artillery Museum

Morning all,
There have been some small discussions about visiting this spot for general interest and some great photographic opportunities for some time. I took the ball and have made some intial enquiries that look promising.

Firstly, North Fort is the home of the Royal Australian ARtilery National Museum and contains the history of Australian Gunners, not only in their role in the many conflicts and peace keeping operations that have invovled Australia but also their contributions as nation builders.

Located at North Head, Manly, amongst the natural bushland of the Sydney Harbour National Park.

It consists of several individual attractions which include:
North Fort underground Tunnels and Fortifications
North Fort Cafe
The Royal Australian Artillery National Museum
Memorial Walk
Artillery Hall
Defence of Sydney 1939-45 Monument
BBQ Circle
Restoration workshops
Function Park

There would be a miriad of photo opportunities on a guided tour.

We wouldn't be allowed to walk freely around ourselves, but having said that I have this morning spoken to one of the employees and with enough notice he could easily organise one or two volunteers to guide us, and allow us to stop as we please to take photos.

Admission is $11 per adult.

For more info visit http://www.northfort.org.au

I anticipate that we organise a meet here for mid October. Please respond in this thread if you would be genuinely interested. If we get enough respondants (won't need to be many) I will set a firm, mutually agreeable date.

Look forward to your responses, should be a facinating and richly photographic experience.

Ok...to get the ball rolling I don't think at this stage I need to give them firm numbers, however seeing as though we will have our own guide who WILL allow us to stop and take photos as we please, giving them firm numbers within the next few weeks will be imperitive.

Good news, we now have a firm booking able to take UP TO 25 people. The event will start strictly at 12pm. (I advise you to be there from 11:45am).

I have also confirmed that we will be able to stop and take photographs as we please, but also have our own tour guide who knows we will want to stop frequently if needs be.

Admissions costs are:

Adults $11
Concession $8
Children $5

The tour usually takes 1.5hrs but with us stopping etc to take photos I have been advised to allow 2hrs. If anyone is interested after this we can go and take photos at North Head if time/weather permits.

This should indeed be a fun event :)

Anyone know when people are meeting up for the richmond air show.. I think that is on the saturday and sunday. If people are going to the airshow on the sunday, i'll be able to go to this on the saturday.

I'll have to check it out.. damn.. I never thought i'd have a conflicting weekend. :)

Hadn't seen anything about this one Gleff, I take it that's the Richmond air base here in Sydney?

I'll have to have a look, maybe go out Sunday. Was there a group from here going?
