My work showing on Channel 7

On Thursday, I received an email from Channel 7 asking me to supply images for the doco on Sunday, 17 September - "50 years of Television". I was gobsmacked to say the least. Do you know how long it takes to find 58 images on three hard drives :o ? Working against a deadline, I found 95% of the images and couriered them to Channel 7 (all faces of folk - old, young, aboriginal, Caucassian, street folk etc etc) and now await the response from the subjects who did not realise that they would be on the telly! They will be shown at the end of the show, in 3 second shots as someone sings "We are all Australians".

They found my work through Googling keywords and found my PBase site.

Cheers
Sheila

Well done Sheila - a great achievement, I hope they're paying you well!

Goes to show the importance of having well described tags eh? (and some pretty good work too!)

I don't know why everyone is so surprised, it's no shock to me at all. If I was doing that segment, Sheila's portraits are the first thing I would think of.
Congratulations Sheila.

Congratulations Sheila. I sure as hell hope they are paying you for your work.

Out of interest - what image resolution & size did they ask for?

Thanks all. They said they had a small budget but I managed to get 50% more out of them but the most important thing is the exposure to approx 1.2 million folk. I sent them high res images at between 2 to 4 MB at 300 dpi (which is what I convert in PSCS2). A couple of the images were fairly low res and these may be rejected. Amongst the images were my husband Fred, my sister Eileen and my good friend, Sheila (yes, another Sheila) and Fred's great nieces from Dubbo. I didn't pick them, Channel 7 did! The rest are complete strangers, a few aboriginal buskers and some street people.

Cheers and thanks again for your good wishes.

I really do recommend that photographers put stat counters on their websites. Its a real eye opener what keywords are used in Google. I even tracked down which gallery Channel 7 opened first (by their IP number) and what they actually Googled to find me - Australian, faces, images and up popped my site.

Adam, if you only watched the last three seconds, all you would see would be the last of the credits :) I think my images will be on screen for about 4 minutes (or as long as it takes to sing the song).

Cheers
Sheila

Just found this post and must add my congratulations to the accolades before. This is well deserved, the image on the post 'Alone in a Crowd' is still one that resonates. I hope you get some additional commercial benefits from the exposure.

The same image (of Cedric, an aborigine) will be appearing in the show (unless they edit a lot out!)
