Just wondering if any members are interested in a day out but only for film cameras?
A option maybe that we only have 1 roll of film to play with (35mm, medium format, etc etc) then have a fun day out learning how to use the 'old school' methods of careful composure and maybe using light meters where required.
At this stage I wouldn't want to put a restriction on lenses but a prime would be a good start!
I'm certainly no expert with film but I would love if some of the experts could come along and teach even just some of the minor basic/finer points of film.
We can then still get them developed (Photoshop V0.0001) and converted into digital via the film processing company onto CD for displaying on the forum.
At this point in time a January or February might be a good time to book in.
I'm keen to hear everyone's idea's and inputs so fire away.

I'd like to take this idea a step further - shoot on film, and then take you through the development process to at least neg stage.

Because the chemical processes require temperature control, the height of summer might not be the best time to do this, but I think it's a great idea.

Who else is aboard?

Where's my ticket? Can we bring more than 1 camera?

I'd be interested in this. Recently I've used a Nikon F90 with Velvia film and a 20mm prime. Loved the sound of the shutter, film winding and the clear viewfinder.

It would be good to be with others that can teach me a thing or two about film.

The beauty of doing this in Autumn/Winter next year is that Alicia will also be able to come and she can use her Bronnie!

If this Idea goes ahead and there are people who would like to attend but don't have a film camera, I may be able to lend out a few older model SLR and rangefinders. Hopefully they are still operational.

I'm in so long as I don't have to come to Sydney to play. I have been shooting a bit of B&W film lately and really enjoying it. Makes you think a bit more before pulling the trigger.

Winter/Autumn may be better time for the meet as Patrick mentioned, I'll have my hands very full during Jan/Feb with the new bub but I'm sure I could sneak off for a Sat/Sun morning break.

Okay so if everyone thats interested can nominate a month they would prefer we can then narrow it down to a date from there.

I'm definitely in for this!! I can lend out some film camera + prime lens to whoever need some gear for our film outing day.

But I have my schedules very full until end of this month.

Got to dig out the rolls hidden in the fridge and dry cabinets...


Edit: Another suggestion is that we go for a bulk purchase of film rolls (traditional BW or Velvia slides? I think the Velvia 50 is back again!) so we can share the shipping/cost from the already expensive rolls...

And how about a workshop afterwards involving developing these films? Just a thought...

Isn't that what I suggested in the second post in this thread?

But the bulk loading of film is a good idea, except that it means that everyone needs to be shooting with a 35mm camera.

We have a loader; we'd just need to get some film. If we are going to be doing our own developing, Velvia is not the best idea; FP4 will probably be the way to go.

Who owns any developing tanks, and what types?

In terms of bulk purchases of film, there is a bloke on ebay that I have bought film off a few times before - he has HP5 120 (5 rolls) for $35 and often has HP5 35mm for about $6 a roll or so.

I can confirm this price for 35 and can take orders for 35 or 120 (or 4x5/8x10)?? We have plenty of time to think about this.

I will have to check, but it is a 2x135/1x120/220 tank, two spools.

The guy sells a lot of different films - Fuji PRO, trannies, HP - will have to check to see if he has FP. I haven't tried it nor looked for it.

March or April is good for me. Jan and Feb are definitely not.

Gary, March or April works for me, I think... Can't confirm until later next year. But for now, I have them free for the weekends.

March would be good for me, as April I have the family visiting plus the new season starts up.
I have 10 rolls of Fujifilm 100 speed Superia 24 exp on 35mm for anyone to use free of charge.
And I also have 5 rolls of Fujfilm 800 speed Superia X-TRA 24 exp on 35mm as well for free use.
The 800 might be bit too fast for a day meet unless we go somewhere dark and dank..

If anybody is game enough, I have some kodachrome that you can have. Not only is it free, but the developing is also free from kodak.
Only problem is, the expiry date is November...

I'm definitely it, it was after a conversation about my first (failed roll of film) through the Leica that Paul had the idea of a film event, I certainly can use all the help I can get

Will be able to bring a F50 and about 10 rolls of Era 100 B&W film (very cheap but reasonable Chinese film) if needed

I would be very interested in getting some cheap 120 rolls of FP4

Should also have a few tanks by then too if ebay is nice to me

Who knows - I may have an F5 by then, but I don't plan on firing off a roll in about 5 seconds!

Will keep an eye on this one and come along if the dates work out well. I'm out around Easter but aside from that don't know yet.

About time the K1000 took a spin, and while I'm happy to run through whatever we can process and get my hands dirty I've been wanting to take some Velvia for a spin for ages.

Just thought I woudl give this a bit of a bump as we are now mid-Jan, and March/April will be upon us quickly.

I have developed a few rolls over the last week or so and found that even water straight out of the tap is approaching 26 degrees at this time of year. My temp-compensation charts don't go that high!

Gary, if you are still interested in bullk loading film, Vanbar have some Tri-X 400 for $62 and FP4 for $80 and Delta 100 for $90 (plus shipping).

They're 30M rolls that you're quotng from Vanbar? The Tri-X seems to be the way to go, but we're also going to be needing some cans.

We're also going to be needing a location to do the processing in/at. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be processing at those temps. Rather, use some icewater to bring the tapwater back down to something more workable. Consider buying a large-ish plastic tub, and filling that with water at your working temperature - 20C.

As you start to mix/dilute your chems, again try to work with water that is closer to your desired temperature, and use your tub as a bath to help try to keep things at a fairly constant and consistent temp.

If you find that your pre-dilute chems are also too warm, throw them (in their sealed bottles) into your bath, perhaps with the bath cooled down a further 2C from what you are wanting to work at. As the bath removes heat from the chems, its temperature will increase.

Yes, they are 30m rolls. I don't know where you can get the canisters from.

Not that can be posted here. Oh, you mean about location - I haven't given it thought yet. We obviously need access to running water, ventilation, bench space, etc and preferably free of dust.

That's what I had to do - I was surprised at how warm the running tap water was, even at 9am yesterday morning!

I'm more inclined to late Feb meet, since I'd have more time with the last week of Feb. But early March is still ok, as long as it is a weekend.

I'd still keen even without the Leica which is visiting with rokkstar and any time after Feb 15th (when I get back from Egypt) would be great.

February is looking very full already with A1 + ABMF + Sheepie's, and thus the 23rd is the only date left in February, hence I'm thinking March may be better.
