This may well be of more interest to pro photographers, but even at this late stage thought it may be worth mentioning.....

Baltronics report

It was in interesting day among the pro photographers at Baltronics yesterday. A lot of the sessions took place in their big studio, and used just one or two lights. They were pushing digital backs up to 22 megapixels and $40k...

If you've seen the new Tim Tam ads, with the reclining naked woman in an ecstatic pose surrounded by whirls of chocolate, you'll know the work of Dennis Montalbetti and Gay Campbell. They're among Australia's most in demand advertising photographers. And they have an endless capacity to take pains - they did 3000 shots of the women in the ads, and used 11 lights in the set up, they explained yesterday. In all it was 20 days wortk for the pair of them. They also said when they were doing portraits they liked to shoot tethered and have the screen tilted towards the sitter. It got the subject more involved, they explained.

Among other small facts from the day: the blue channel is where the noise is.

Canon's professional rep said that a blower was the best way to keep the sensor clean, and that he couldn't recommend using swabs.

And there were repeated warnings that CD data may only last 2 years.
