Nikkor AFS 300m/f4 lens queryMy interest at the moment is motor sports. Could you guys advise how practical this lens would be for motor sports used on a D70? I realise that it is not a fast lens but most motor sports is outdoors in good light.
Thank you. Jeff

i think it is. its only a stop less that the 300 f2.8 prime which weights alot Life's pretty straight without drifting

I find this lens to be very comfortable to use ie. not heavy, well balanced and certainly fast on the D2x

When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
Jeff, I would second the others thoughts. Absolutely great value for money compared to a 300 2.8 VR and much lighter. Pretty good wide open, even better stopped down. Good focusser, though I would say the AFS is as fast as a good AF lens (say 85 1.
![]() As Sirhc and others may mention, the tripod collar is ordinary, RRS make a good one but as I usually use mine on a monopod I haven't bothered to change it.
Jeff,
It's a great lens for motorsport during the daylight. Fast enough with its AF-S, economical in comparision with the 300 AF-S 2.8 Birddog114
