Ziess 50mm f1.4

Not a review (yet), just a preview. I got home yesterday to find a package sitting at my front door. I wasn't sure what it was, and was very surprised to see that this arrived 12 days early!!!

It was about tucker time, so I fired up the BBQ, threw on some mystery meat and took some first shots.

I'm not sure what f-stop this was. As i hadn't added the lens info to the D200 by this stage. But this one is about f2-f2.8ish

Looks good Andrew. Will be interested to see how it compares to the Nikkor equivalent!

$500 USD for the lens.
$40 USD for the shipping.
$2 AUD for the mystery meat.
$0 for customs. lucky me.

Being told by a train guard today not to take photos due to "security risks" - priceless. :shock:

US$500.00? is it worth to own it than the Nikkor 50/1.4?
What're the pros and con? but it seems to me it's overpriced.

The lens seems to be a beauty. BTW it is a Zeiss, not a Ziess :lol:
(I'm an old 'Kraut", I should know ... :lol: :lol: :lol: )

I'm also looking forward to portrait shots and some reproductive photography.

You may have discovered one of my 'English being my second language'
'beauties'.
I have discovered a few of them over time and will not mention them ... :oops:
Reproductive photography, reproductional photography; the photography which in German is called Reproduktionsphotographie.
A certain type of photography which reproduces the image of things, mainly for printing purposes. BTW the same word for something in one language has a completely different meaning in another language.
i.e: the word preservative in English means chemicals which preserve
food.
The word Preservativ in German means condom.
I like my food with no condoms (preservatives) !!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Birdy,

The con is the price and on some F-mount bodies you'll find it hard to MA in low light. Made even harder with a shallow DOF wide open.

The pro is the contrast wide open. With the Nikkor glass at f1.4 you lose contrast, but with the zeiss it retains it.

So the Nikkor 50/1.4 is still safe to play and I still like or prefer the mood of the nikkor 50/1.4 than the Zeiss.

Thanks Alex. This 50mm retains the most contrast wide open of any f1.4 I've used.
