Took delivery of my new 500VR this morning, what a beauty she is and can't believe how sharp it is even with the 1.7 TC, with very little loss in image quality. I'm looking forward to using it in combo with the D3 when my wife and I are off to Botswana in 6 weeks staying 24 nights. I've had to let go of my 200-400VR to fund this expensive exotic glass and will really miss it. Just can't justify 2 exotics. If anyone is interested, I have it listed here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0451903326Cheers Marc

That incident if I recall, occurred in Namibia. Have been to Botswana quite a few times now, it's a relatively safe country, in fact it's the most stable in all of Africa. Cheers Marc

I don't understand. With a lens like that, can't you take the shots of the animals in Botswana from your place in Sydney?

Have a look here: 500VR on left, being slightly fatter & longer. 600gm's weight difference. Check out the size of the 500 hood! Cheers Marc
