My new (old ) toyHI
I bought this lens 180mm f2.8 non D version for $US200 after saw some pictures of Padey and a small discusstion about this lens . Fix at 180 mm it is much smaller and lighter than the one touch 80-200, being a prime there is no zoom to worry , just set aperture or ( and) Shutter speed and walk up or down to shoot. I don't have anything to test so the cat in the back yard is the subject, This has the same bokeh similar to 85 mm and is a sharp lens, and take a bit of time to get use to it. Regards

Hi Spada,
I've been tossing up about this lens for a while, it has a very good reputation! Were these taken at f2.8? It seems to me to be lacking a bit in contrast (or maybe the black bits on the cat aren't very black!) Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
Hi Digitor
Long time no see you since last year AW . This is non D version( around year 198X ) shoot at f3.3 1/750s ISO 200 in the morning sun, it also sharp at f2.8 but the cat is moving slightly so I make it f3.3.In the second picture the black is faded because the way this lens render out of focus area ( I think ). One thing it is slow ( but not so slow ) on my S2, and it will be faster on other cameras like D70 . BTW : thank for let me try your Sigma 12-24 last year. Regards

It has been a while - unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year
No worries at all - it is a big chunk of glass compared to the newer dx wides eh? Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
gotta love a black and white moggie
try to get down lower, even with the cat - then get it looking straight down the barrell and shoot (the camera that is!). Prefer the 1st one, as the DOF works nicely, the second one isn't as interesting - I think mostly because the cat doesn't appear to be looking at anything in the 2nd, whereas in the first it's obviously spotted something *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
