D70 remote...anyone have it?

Yup. I think you'll find a lot of the Sydney-siders here do.
I love mine... much better than the Jaycar one... which is just a random one tuned to I think it is the Sanyo or JVC channel of remotes or something...
They only cost around $20-30 AU so it should only be around that much in Canada.

Dee are you talking of the wireless remote ML-L3? I find it very useful for the price. My recommendation is get one. Becareful though easy to misplace or lose.

I have one (ML-L3). It's definately worth getting. Costs about $20 -$30 Aus. I use it for most of my tripod work. I used to use the delayed release on the d70 before I had the ML-L3, but the delayed release keeps resetting to normal shutter after each shot. With ML-L3, you put d70 on remote or remote delayed and it doesn't reset after each shot. Well worth the $$s IMHO.

Hi Dee,
well worth having, used it this morning on sunrise shots. These days, I'll also use it on a lot of tripod photos, even at fast shutter speeds, it just guarantees you don't introduce any vibration if you had to press the shutter release.

I highly recommend this little cordless number. It just sits in its little pouch on the neckstrap and is the perfect accompaniement to the Leitz Ball & Socket Head and Table Top Tripod for simple walking around snapping.
It would be handy in the studio also when using hot lights or skylight.
I have a question for the troops also: in using the delayed release with this little elctronic cockroach is there a way to get the mirror to pre-release? I use mirror-up a lot on my Canon but have not been able to find a similar function on the D70s.

Sheetshooter, no MLU on the D70 or D70s I'm afraid. It's possible the D200 will have it but that doesn't help
I know some guy doing macro work put in a mechanical shutter (like aperture blades) between the body and the lens and put the camera into bulb and just released it with a cable release.

btw, i got one and it is great if you are close to the d70, but at christmas i was doing some family portraits with me in it, and the damn thing wouldnt fire all the time....... what is the maximum distance you guys have used it ? there was no manual or info come with the remote...

I think it is rated at up to 8m. The furthest I have used mine is probably about 4 or 5m.

And being infrared, there needs to be line of sight to the sensor on the front left hand side of the camera (as you hold the camera)

I just went outside and tested mine, its definitely working 100% at 12metres,
and 80% at 15m, but by 20m its very hit and miss, less than 10%.
As Greg said, line of sight is important, but you can bounce it in a confined space at very close range. At distance you really need to make sure the lens hood isnt in the way!
