New Equipments Reviews

Postby birddog114 on Thu Nov 25, 2004 12:20 pm

Hi All,
I'm planning to have products shoot of the following items this weekend and will have a brief review on them posted here for member's references:

Markin Ballhead on Gitzo 1325 CF tripod/ Gitzo 1227G
Acratech Ballhead with Gitzo 1325CF/ Gitzo 1227G
Markin and Acratech ballhead on Gitzo TELE-STUDEX monopod G1558
with 70-200VR + 80-400VR mounted same as other lenses in my inventory with D2h/ D100/ D70 camera + RRS portrait flash bracket B-87 with SC-28 and SB-800. RRS L bracket with the QRP.
I'll ask Onyx spend time to have his brief preview on all of them.
So stay tuned!!!!

W00t, I'm dizzy in anticipation! :)

And as I remarked regarding your cellar of exquisite wines, I don't know if I can fully appreciate all that these fine items are able to provide.

As I understand it, the Gitzo 1325 is a carbon fibre 'pod with no centre column; the 1227G is a CF 'pod with a precision geared centre column.
Acratech ballhead is the funky twirly looking ballhead, the Markins is the more traditional ballhead on a pan base.
And then there's the Gitzo tele-studex 1558 monopod - which I believe is CF(?)

Ok... ummm, where do I start?
Well, Saturday was a busy day at Birddog's base. Many forum members dropped by during the day, lots of new "toys" to see and play with.

Here's the gallery of the new products that may be on interest to fellow forum members:
http://www.pixspot.com/thumbnails.php?album=29

I think I'll make separate threads for the reviews, as there are many aspects to cover:
Arcatech Ultimate Ballhead vs Markins M20
Gitzo 1227G and 1325 tripods and 1588 monopod (not a comparison, as they're pretty similar high end carbon fibre tripods/monopod)
Nikon and Canon right angle viewfinder attachements
RRS L-bracket for D70.

Now you’ve made me more determined to get down there to have a play with all this gear

It will happen one day

Cheers

Well Raydar, and all memebers - Birddog has a generous open invitation to all members who wishes to do so, can drop by on Saturdays (with prior arrangement) and you get to play with all these latest toys and accessories, and bring in your images for printing at cost for upto A3 size on his Epson 2100.
(I think I'm not overstepping the line here... you're more than welcome to come play!) :)

We're VERY lucky to have someone like Birddog in our community. He has all the gear in one place where sometimes not even the best pro photo shops in the big cities would have them for you to try out!

Birddog,

Message understood.

Looking forward to receiving my package during the coming week. I will trace my RRS consignment at home tonight. I am at friend's place, and therefore don't have the tracking number on me. Although if you are getting your's tomorrow, mine will probably be arrival Tuesday/Wednesday.
