80-200 f4.5 are they all the same?

What I mean is, disregarding the fact that you can't meter with earlier ones, is the optical quality the same on all the variants NON AI,AI, AIS etc.
The reason I ask is because I've noticed that an AIS is double the price of an AI on Ebay. If the quality is the same, that's a lot to pay extra.
