Just read this thread after reading Bjorn Rorslett's D200 review

Glad that I didn't wait for it. I am happy with what I bought.

I don't know why your happy Oneputt, owning a D2X and all Yeah well I'm glad I still haven't received mine yet. Hopefully Nikon will get on top of the problem before to long because apart from this glitch it sounds like a really good camera according Bjorn. His reviews seem to be very honest and up front. Sounds like it might have something to do with the compression engine and some guy has postulated it may have to do with the RF signal

It's a Nikon's QC issues which I have found and read alot in the past few weeks.
Hope they will have some solutions to rectify them.

Its prob cheaper to replace the handful of cameras with this problem than recall all of them. Not everyone is reporting banding problems.

I suppose but as Bjorn said even those that didn't exhibit the problem were able to be induced to show it, meaning it's lurking there somewhere. Again I don't think Bjorn is one to panick about anything so if he thinks it's a problem I believe him.

Yeah still as Bjorn argues it's a matter of client/public confidence in Nikon QC. I agree they do need to deal with it ASAP and decisively. For at the moment the brilliance of the camera is being snowballed by the concerns over this striping/banding issue which Bjorn obviously is worried anout.
Still we can only wait and see.

From the Bjorn's review:-

Affected cameras show all three clearly depending on the shooting circumstances, while a non-affected camera have none or only the most minute vestiges of (I), no (II), and only traces of (III) in conjunction with colour noise for greatly underexposed pictures.

I shot more than 9.000 exposures with my review sample before I could identify a vestige of Type (I) striping. A friend encountered issues within the first hundred shots.

QC problem, It should get sorted over the next few months. I wonder if shutterbug has banding problems or any other D200 owners seen this?

I believe it may be an issue but how widespread it really is, only Nikon would know after seeing these reports and actually testing the D200 under proper conditions.
In the age of the internet and the masses of people who use it worldwide, things will get blown out of all proportion.
Bjorn is only one person with one opinion and his findings are far from precise.
I am glad I don't have a D200 coming for now but at the same time, I don't think the problem is as bad as what it appears to be on the net.
If you are already an owner, I wouldn't start hyperventilating about it.
Once Nikon get to the bottom of the problem, I'm sure they will make a clear statement and make any changes necessary to the camera itself.
If the net was as lively as it is right now back in 1996, the F5 would have suffered the same thing with it's battery issues.
Whats that? You didn't know it had battery issues? Thats my point.

I'll be purchasing the D200 eventually and this banding issue can't take away from the anticipation of what a great tool it will be!

Chill I say and wait until there is confirmation from a credible source. ie Nikon

This banding is now a well known issue with Nikon.
The delay of shipping is also part of this well known issue.

My D200 is working great, no problems (banding) so far

Maybe you're one of the lucky owners.
Not all the D200 are with the banding issue same as the BGLOD on the D70.
Once Nikon knew the problem(s), they may defer the shipment till they re-QC of their new product or having solutions to solve and the reputation of their products as well.

Perhaps the affected owners should "BAND" together and put pressure on Nikon to sort it out sooner rather than later?
