pros:
-plays mp3, mp4, reviews photos(jpegs), voice recorder, av input recorder
- has 20 gb of storage( appantly you can upgrade to 100gb)
- you can connect your d70 and copy files straight over to its harddrive
or connect your cf card reader to it and copy files over
- has an sd card slot
- about the size of a deck of cards
- 7 hours battery life
- 3.5" lcd screen
cons:
- cant rename or use file managment, basic copy or delete
- av input is pal only
- boring mp3 playback screen
- no car charger
- package software for converting movies gives crappy results [good image playback, crap sound or crappy image playback good sound]

What do you with that 20Gb drive?

OTG is an old fashioned techniques which never work with photographers on the move.

It's an old discussion on this board but how many of you out there transferring/ copying your photos from your D70/ Card reader while you're shooting via OTG, with the USB cable hanging from the camera to the PSD?

If you have $249.00, spend your money with some other PSD, with better value than it.

MSI could not move this product successfully in IT market, so now they dump it to difference market.

MSI Australia got some of these units last year, I got two unit at a very low price, struggle for awhile and finally returned them without any regret.

Turns out it was an MSI product.

MSI make decent MicroATX cases... I think that's about it.

I'd probably prefer the PQI, Archos, Epson, or Creative devices in this PSD field more than an MSI one.

Yes, MSI was pioneer in introducing the SFF desktop PC 6 years ago, but now that market has been taken over by Shuttle, Acer and other.

MSI is suck!!!!!!! Deal with them lenghtly in the past, their support is negative and they didn't care.

Never go back to meet them once again.

Indeed.

Weak video cards, motherboards, optical drives... MSI have definetly lost ground in the IT sector.

The MegaPC was a good idea, but it was way too expensive and it hasn't really evolved. Shame shame, MSI.

No...haven't used this product but I can say my Aldi laptop and desktop are still going strong

Your Aussie 249 bucks can buy something better value than that device if you just want only extra storage.

who makes just a basic portable HDD where you can transfer via the flash card?

What I mean by basic is no color screen etc etc....just a means of dumping data

personally I think this is a good way to go when roaming around and you just need to clear some cards

I like the MP4 playback bonus, it may not be an epson, but for the money "IF" it functions ok , it would seem a winner..

Realise that if you're an iPod user already, having mp4 playback does not mean you'll be able to play AAC files but MP4 files, even though the two are bloody close with the exception of the type of licenses.

No Ipod here.. Cant justfy the cost. They seem over priced. I have a 40gig X'drive x3310 that I use as portable storage. It plays MP3's also but the battery life is a bit crappy.

The MP4 stuff interests me as I have some free time at work, used to drag the laptop with me but thats not real practical.

I too have been looking at this $249 piece of kit. It has so much potential to be a great piece of hardware - but these big Asian producers have no interest in providing firmware upgrades to extend the life of these products. As soon as they hit the market they are obsolete and get dumped at cheap prices. Any new firmware fixes always go into the next 'newer' model. Damn. I rather like the X-Drive VP-6230 since it can display RAW Nikon images - but this model too is now obsolete.

That sounds very interesting. During my photoshoot a couple of weeks ago I had a 17 inch powerbook with me and although it was nice too review shots it was too much to carry around all day. Usually when I'm on a shoot I don't have much time to review shots and all i mostly used my lappy for dumping the shots off my card.

Maybe this will be the first thing I buy from Birdy.

Lot of people are dreaming of chimping the takes with the PSD during or after the shoots, but come into reality, the photos on displayed on the tiny screen of the PSD never ever do justice, carrying a lappy is another burden with weight and power required.
When I'm on the shooting, my main storage is my CF cards, CF cards are quite cheap now. PSD or notebook is just another form of backup.

Chipming on a screen below 5 inches wide is like chimping on your digital camera's screen.

Not much difference.

A bit bigger, but unlike the bigger viewfinder, it's unlikely to make a big difference.
