Nice one! I like the bottom one of each.. but I might be abit biased as I am picking up my 50mm f1.4 in a few hours..

Nah, after he'd tried my 1.4 last night Johnno refused to get his 1.8 out for comparison. I suspect it would be an expensive experiment :)

Been playing around with my new f1.4 and it so fast. Will be posting some pics up very very soon...

This lens is a keeper!

WHat strikes me about both pairs of images is the nicer, creamier bokeh in the two 1.4 shots.

I'm looking forward to Trieu's shots with the 1.4 from Vesak day since the few I saw on the camera preview looked damn good.

IMHO - I don't believe there is THAT much difference. However, the most noticeable difference between lenses is the bokeh (the out of focus point bits). On the 1.8 they are much harsher then on the 1.4, this makes for a much nice OOF background in shots. If you notice the background on the 1.4 is much smoother, and the point sources of light are smoother, then on the 1.8.

Having said that, I love the 1.8. :)

I agree there is not much difference, but the Bokeh on the 1.4 to me looks nicer....whats the price difference between the lenses guys?

RRP Difference: $570
HK Price Diff: ~$330

That is the reason I chose the 1.8. :)

Depth of field

Look at the hand of the wooden doll in the top two shots - it is blurrier in the bottom shot, the wider aperture 1.4 gives you a narrower depth of field.

I've got a Nikon 50 1.4 and it can get ridiculously narrow if you are shooting wide open and close to focus, down to a centimetre or so
