Hi ast and welcome to the forum.

I like your set-up - very cool. I don't use a flash bracket at the present time; it is something that I have not gotten around to adding to my collection, but looks like it could be very useful.

i'm disappointed by my vertical shots with flash thats why i got the bracket, so far so good i hate the shadow on the right-rear part of my subject.

Hi ast, I notice it's yer first post. Welcome to the forums.

The only person I know of around here that has and uses flash brackets is Birddog. He's got a few bits from RRS (ReallyRightStuff) that allows a multitude of mounting options.

Became my first macro bracket


Last month I converted it to flip bracket when I had to take photos at my friends wedding


Currently in a process of making new macro bracket from scratch.

RRS is heavy on the pocket, you're right, but it's versatile and well designed engineering same as precisely. It can mount 2 x SB-800 and can be integrated in other uses with RRS bracket, lens plates (foot), macro stuff.

My questions:
- can your flash bracket swing into 180 degree from horizontal to vertical? and can the flash bracket sliding and integration with L bracket or lens plate, when you want to mount it on the ball head with QRP + dove tail?
- If you have the long lens like the 70-200VR/ 80-200/ 200-400VR, does the flash bracket still function? and does it stay right on top of the lens about 2/3 the distance from the camera mount to the front lens element?

I have the very same flash setup - the Stroboflip - it works very well for me. Purchased from B&H last year for around $140 Aus including postage.

I have the same 'RRS' setup to Birddog.

Excellent for Macro with SB-800, SC-28 and also can support my 70-200VR.

I like the RRS setup and even more now that I found out I used to live 1/2 mile away from them! Silly. I also saw a Newton flip bracket that I really liked. Photog at my wedding used it - although the shots were lackluster - canon - 'nuff said there

anyway, my flash bracket is a custom made, design based from StroboFlip with some minor adjustments as you can see, its very tight up and compact as i don't want a bulky bracket. i can't be attached to a tripod, but can accomodate 70-200mm VR lens, and can still stand upright on the table, floor etc.

as for the 180 degrees rotation, i think my bracket can only do 90 degrees

As noted previously in this thread I have the StroboFlip, and as you havedone , I to have mounted the SC17. If you look on the base there is a thread for mounting a plate for tripod use!!

I'm waiting for my SC-28, i'm a bit annoyed by the lenght of the SC-17. my bracket don't have a mounting plate for tripod use

I think you will find that the SC28 is about the same length as the SC17 unless you are buying a specially shortened one.

oh really?? thought all the while that SC-28 is shorter than SC-17... hmmm

can somebody confirm this please.

SC-17 or SC-28 or SC-29 are the same lenght, I have all three so I know what sirhc55 means.

o-oh! my SC-28 is already on its way. anyway, i guess i'll just make use of the other modification from the SC-17 cable, i think it has a different lock, and the cable from the camera's hotshoe comes out from the side unlike the SC-17 front? oh and also black colored cable
