X-Drive Pro VP3310Vosonic VP3310 Portable Mass Media Drive (2.5 inch HDD and card reader)
This is an improved Vosonic X-Drive VP300 with the addition of a blue backlight. Cosmetically it is the same as the previous model. It's fairly large and comes in two colours, black or white. Physically it feels a bit cheap and the rear cover seems a bit loose. It is only held in place by one small screw. It has all the usual features as most Portable Mass Storage Devices. THe packaging comes with the following; USB2.0 240v Power Supply USB cord Software on mini-CD. (Including manual, Win98 drivers and utilities) A protective case to pack it in. 3.5mm bud-type headphones It reads Smartmedia, SD/MMC, Memory Stick Memory stick pro, Compactflash I/II and IBM Microdrives. It also supports MP3 playback and has cheap headphones included. Playback is excellent on 128-256mbps but struggles with 320mbps mp3s. Battery life is not long but using the AC power pack will negate that. Pity it doesn't have a 12v car adapter. Battery is an internal 830mAH Li-ion rechargeable (No option for AA batteries). Charging time is about 4 hours. Use is very simple. Turn it on, insert card, press copy. Cost is about $200 without a HDD. Steve.

X-Drive Pro VP3310 car adapterG'day,
Well here I am a wannabe D70 owner and posting for the first time Anyway, the VP3310 does have a car adapter. Power In Numbers in Victoria (http://www.powerinnumbers.com.au) sells these with a bundled car adapter. Don't know if you can get them separately. Don't know the details - never done business with this seller. One of the guys at work bought the COMPACT DRIVE PD7X which is similar to the VP3310 (without the MP3 facility) in function and price. It had a similar problem of being a bit flimsy - cover door over the card slots that I think only took a week or so to get so loose it got removed. Other than that I think he's found it okay so far. Well, there's my hopefully useful 2c worth. Cheers, Gordon.
Excellent. Well spotted Gordon, and welcome to the forum.
Steve.

I have PD7X which bought from Jaldigital (http://www.jaldigital.com.au) and found that this unit outperformed VP3310 (which my brother has it) in term of Transfer rate.
I'd second that. I have a friend who just bought the PD7X, and his is *much* quicker than my XS-Drive II (poor cousin of the VP330). A full 1GB CF card of .NEF files takes about 15min to copy on my X-Drive II, and about 4min on the PD7X. Speed wasn't an issue with the old P&S, but once I stepped up to Nikon and the .NEF format on 1GB and 2GB cards it suddenly made a difference...
This is the one I have: http://www.xs-drive.com/xsdrive2/ If anyone is foolish enough to want mine, you can have it for $80 (not inc. drive) and I'll get a PD7X. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
That 'friend' might be me.
It is a great device. I can't recommend it enough. The copy is really fast. I really think that for this kind of price or and performance that it's the only way to get at the moment. You have the x-drive but it's slow. Otherwise it's the expensive devices like the Nikon walker with the screen that is close to $1000. Only negative with the compactdrive is that it tends to drain batteries, so at every point I try to charge it up. it comes with a car charger. While well-built the battery compartment door is tight and i wouldn't be surprised 12 months down the track there will be gaff tape around it. DN26
Forget about the X-Drive, PD7x, Nikon CoolWalker, settled for the Epson P-2000, a beauti device, never regrettful. Birddog114

Well spotted! I'm not too concerned with the image review function of the Epson, but the cost is a clincher. As soon as I can find someone to buy my XS-Drive II I'll be upgrading to the PD7X. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Skippy, If you see the Epson P-2000, your mind will change! Birddog114

Saw this article today.
This looks promising, but no speed indications, so my CompactDrive is still the winner at this stage. But at least this looks sexy. http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/news/ar ... _2415.html DN26
dn,
thanks for the link. i've got my eye on one of those. haven't been able to find out much about its performance though. the only thing that i would like is to be able to delete files from the PSD but this model doesn't seem to support this. if anyone is after somewhere to buy it in australia, try these links: http://www.pccasegear.com.au/category149_1.htm http://www.mittoni.com.au/catalog/default.php/cPath/206?sID=fa2553eeebc5f1c1f4e73954e874edc7 i think i will get one of these before my trip to NZ. dave.
I was given a Mine PSD with a 10 gig HDD.
Using rechargeable battery’s in it was a wast of time, you would get 3 – 4 card downloads before the battery run out. So I made up a recharable lithium battery pack out of two mobile phone batteries & hard wired them in, works well.... the Mine will recharge them in house in about 2 hours. I've achieved 7 card downloads with the battery still showing half full so it's been given a second life!!!! Cheers Ray >> All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism<<
