Hmm... looks like it's meant to have a fixed lens, similar to the fuji s9600 or soemthing...

Funny little thing it is :P

I just had a quick play with it today... amazing how small this thing actually is!!!

It felt like a P&S and it works pretty well tho, snappy response and clear images...

How wonderful if it had a AF motor for older AF lenses... its just perfect thing to travel around... I can easily slide the body into my jacket's pocket!! you'll have an idea how small this is..

Is it bigger than a 400d?

so it will only use AF-S lenses??

Pity if this is so, would be good with a 50 1.8..

Cheers

I'm not sure how it is compared to a 400D, have not yet to hold one...

But what I can say, it 'feels' that it is just half the size of a D70!!
Its hard to find a good rest for your finger/palm when holding it as its so compact, but it does a good job on travelling light I suppose, definitely not for everyday workhorse, feels like you may break it easily as it slips off your hand.

And I'm sure there will be a AF-S 50mm f/1.8G lens announcement soon... the 50/1.8D was discontinued as I know...

Very interesting... Thinking one of these for the wife and a take everywhere type cam.. The d200 with grip can be a beast to carry around. This may fit the bill..

And even better with the 45mm 2.8P (in which case the AF wouldn't matter  )

Cheers

I think that we should say thanks to Nikon.

Our forum will have 2-3 times members in next years as they grab many DC users to be a DSLRUSERS.

Nikon this time is very aggressive and this market is unlimited.

Simple, cheap and good quality camera.

Evan a backup camera for serious users.

Cheers
Poon

Agree, this would be perfect to leave in the bag, for on location malfunctions.

Downside is different batteries, and cards to D70/D200.

Perhaps perfect leightweight travel camera, just add a 18-200...

Indeed, would suit the D40 very well. The 45 P looks ridiculous on my D200 with MB-D200 attached!

You should see what it looks like when it's attached to a D2 body...

Just thought I'd ask the question.. the D40 only works with AFS lens, can the older lens be mounted at all, is manual focus an option, or will the camera just not work with non-AFS lens attached ?

Camera will work with all "post-AI" lenses as long as it is F-Mount.

AF, AF-D lenses will not autofocus, but will retain metering.

MF lenses will not auto-focus (duh) nor has any metering (alas D70).

And not to try pre-AI lenses on top... nor an AF-S 600 F4 (dont ask why)

Whats the viewfinder like on it ? Is it too small to easily focus manual lenses with ?

I saw some sub $950 pricing yesterday for local imported stock with the kit lens & 3yr mack warranty. Now that is cheap.

EDIT: OK so Poon has them even cheaper. WOW.
