Hi Guys
Does anyone know if this filter is glass? Its circular, but i assume has no issues working with the Cokin P Holder which is square? Does it manage to rotate inside the device some how?
Bit confused.
Cheers

Kris,
I'm not familiar with the specific filter in question, but the whole Cokin filter holder assembly is easily able to be rotated when mounted on a lens.
That's a part of its basic feature set.

Ah so the filter doesnt rotate, the holder does in this instance?
Thanks

The circular type filters in the cokin range have a lip on them which fits into the holder at the bit closest to the lens. If you have a look at your holder (if you have one) there will be some thin slits in it that are too thin for the resin holders.
This allows the likes of the c.polariser to spin within the holder, while other resin filters stay put

Likewise I am not familiar with the Cokin P series, but I had a Cokin A Series Polariser, and it was round and knurled so it was easy to rotate within the holder so it could be turned independently of say a graduated tinted filter.

Sheepie is right. You just rotate the circular polariser, albeit slowly, whilst it is contained within the Cokin holder. That way, you can also place another filter, such as a graduated neutral density filter, into the holder at the same time.

Can you guys tell me if the Cokin P 164 CPL is glass or plastic?? I'm not overly happy putting on a plastic filter infront of $2k of glass, ya know?

the polly filter used to be glass, but a call to any good camera store will give you the info, as I have broke the odd one in my time......

Kris... the CPL is glass... I have the exact same one.
Whilst the Cokin system is a good option for some filters like the graduated ones, I would actually suggest going with a normal 77mm screw in type for a CPL if you intend to use it on a regular basis... I find the CPL doesn't get used much due to the fiddle in putting it all together.
Other than that it works fine I think.

Thanks Mj, i want to avoid having filters for all my lenses but I guess I could get one for my most used walk about lense and use the Cokin for everything else..
Hmmm
Good to know its glass! Thank you

Kris... I went down the same path a got the cokin system, which I think works well for ND filters and a few others but for a CPL you can get a 77mm one and a few step-up rings to allow for your different lens.
Have a look at the two options and form your own view... but that's probably what I would do now in hindsight.
