Tamron 70-300 in macro mode

Took this photo late last night when I noticed a huntsman spider sitting on a beige downpipe next to a beige wall, so contrast was a bitch

I don't think this lens is really the "champion of macros" but then again I have NO experience shooting macro, so I really don't know if it's any good or not.

The lens that is, not the photo. I know the pic is ordinary :P

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!

Where's the Baygon.

What an incredibly beautiful spider.

So much for contrast, I think that under the conditions you have done superbly.

Hi mate, I am keen to see this picture as I brought that lens over in Penang 3 weeks ago and are getting used to it,

For some reason your picture does not want to show itself?

How are you finding this lens?

here is a recent pic I took with it

I have successfully taken some birds the other morning feeding and will post them when I get the chance

Ciao mate

John I have that lens and I reckon it is OK. I've had a lot of fun with the macro, so much so that I am now thinking of getting a dedicated macro lens (the Sigma 150 f2.8 macro HSM etc etc looks great).

Looking forward to seeing your shots.

cheers

Can see it now

Very impressive shots from that lens and operator. Ugly little bugger as well, Greg (the spider, not you  )

Actually Glen, the red bits are much redder - clearly I have not resolved the colour gamut thingy issue even though I thought I had. Damn.

Thanks Glen, I should rescan it (Kodachrome 64 trannie), that scan was on my older crappy scanner and now I have a good one. It was a magical morning at the Mudfest around 1980 +/- a year or two.

Noting the date of that photo, is the fellow with the bourbon a self portrait?

That was at a different "event" Glen, but probably around the same sort of time. No, it isn't a self portrait, and it is scotch. Dennis liked a drink - that was his second bottle!! He just faded about 5am, and when we got up later in the morning, there he was. I seem to recall that he came to a little while later, and had a heart starter. It would be interesting to know where/what/how he is now. Nice guy, played hard.

The most amazing thing about Gregs' smugmug site is the photo of him without his face buried in a *****
