OK...I had my best mate Troy pop around this afternoon so I coaxed him into giving me some help with the backdrop system..AND posing for me for some test shots...here we go:

The setup shots are for illustrative purposes only (and were taken in a hurry)...

The backdrop stand with material ready to roll down (length of cross bar in this shot, 4m - length of material = 3m):

Partial roll out of material:

My best mate (and best man to be at our wedding) Troy:

And...a self portrait, don't really like this and I'm posting in a hurry as about to go out, I feel l look too washed out. Comments of course welcomed:

Geoff

Thanks for posting the photos and I think the background material will work really well.

The portraits look great, but I think the use of a back/hairlight will really make the whole set up shine in a non-shiny sort of way

Given that this was the background used on Saturday for the portraiture workshop - what did everyone think?

I personally thought it was rugged, didn't reflect too much light (although it could be exposed to give a bit of a mottled grey look), and could be underexposed quite easily if you want a pure black background. Setting it up seems to be a bit of a problem as Geoff has pointed out, but once set up, and particularly with the stands used, it looks pretty stable.

Cheers

Patrick - I'm quite pleased, with an assistant this is a great setup for the price.

Sorry Geoff - I tried searching for "Part I" of this topic but came up empty-handed. Just wondered which system this is? Is it the Fotogen Hercules system via eBay?? If not could I ask which one and how much??
:)

I felt the stand/material is more than up to the task - worked well. The model, the light kit, stand produced the images we saw earlier - pretty darn good results I think

Simon, speaking on behalf of Geoff :D , this is part I

The material is from Dragon Image.

I believe Geoff is also using the background stands from Oz-Plaza (ebay) - I have the same stands, which were the same used in the portraiture workshop for one of the lights - for the price, very stable.

Yep! Thanks Patrick, I've been out and about this morning.
Hopefully within the next few weeks we will also have a nice white background too. Same material.

excellent, ordered my kit today x 2 now all i need is some backdrop material, maybe a group buy on backdrop material? ;) with the backdrop stand geoff do you think it would be beneficial to get the largest one? 4.5m x 4m i think over the one you got? that way if you need the size you have it if not you can still go small?

Michael - sounds reasonable but consider what your main purpose will be for...full body/head portraiture...how many bodies at once etc?

Did you get any email response to your order?
