I'm looking to upgrade my PC gear gradually.
Monitor is first.
I'm looking at the Samsung 215TW monitor or the Samsung 226BW in the $500 - 650 range. Both will be a big step up from my Benq 17"!!
Is anyone else using either of these or have recommendations for monitors around the $500 - 600 range.
cheers

hi rookie, i too am doing some monitor upgrade research at the moment. From my reading of online information the dell 20" is worth considering and when you wait for a $200 off deal that they have from time to time its less than $500.

I have a samsung 215tw and think it is great. I haven't tried many others, bt the 215 has good features and is a genuine 8 bit monitor. I believe many others are 6 bit (often but not excluxively described as 16.2 million colours as opposed to 8- bit 16.7m)

I have the Samsung 226BW.
Bought it from Harvey Norman for $429.00 from memory.
They reluctantly matched a price from Computer Alliance.
No issues with the monitor so far, it does a reasonable job!
BTW mine was an upgrade from a BenQ 17" also....

WOW..HN Marion offered the 226BW to me for the bargain price of $799 just yesterday !!
Strangely I dint go for that 'deal'
I've settled on the 215TW from my local Computer guy for $650 - pick it up tomorrow with the reassurance I can take it back anytime for personal friendly service.
I cant wait to finally start sorting my backlog of images properly - my eyesight is definitely going so am hoping the bigger screen might help speed up work in
PS etc.

thanks Adam for the followup research.
I did do some of this checking of the panels and kept coming back to the Samsung 215TW. Couldn't find the NECs in Oz and liked the reviews for the 215TW overall.
I'm sure it will be plenty good enough for my capabilities.
Getting it via my local guy only cost $20 more than some of the online prices so it was an easy choice as he has always helped out when I have stuffed up my PC or needed new gear.
cheers

$569 at 'itestate' followinga shopbot search, didn't look at delivery costs. I have a 19" Samsung and may get this as a twin.

The other good thing about the 215 above the other
models / brands listed with the same panel is the samsung warrenty and faulty pixel policy, which as far as i am aware is the best in the business.
on a side note, from my reading online my understanding is that the 'IPS' panel technology is slightly better in terms of colour accuracy / reproduction than the 'PVA' technology (and the 'TN' tech is far behind both). but 'PVA' are better allrounders for movies + games as well because they are generally faster at "refreshing".
